Hummers are good as long as you're not buying one.

The H2 (or whatever that giant incapable thing is) is definitely gas and a joke as an off-road vehicle. Basically it's a Tahoe or Suburban skinned to look sort of like a real military Hummer. More or less a toy for the uh, phallically inadequate.
Here's a couple H2's in action:
weak front end
and
stuck on a tiny tree stump
A real Hummer is a totally different vehicle.

Whilst looking for a new sand sled I checked out the H3 and Nissan XTerra. The H3 has 8 inches of ground clearance at the transfer case while the Xterra had 9 inches. I have bought nothing as yet as Mama won and got a brandy new Honda Accord somehow.
Nevertheless, If I was going to buy right now it would be the XTerra but if I wait one more year Toyota is introducing a scaled down version of it's old landcruiser in the same price range as the Xterra with more head and leg room and 9.5 inches of clearance, an important factor in beach riding to me.

Why even try.........

That new Toyota is what I have my eyes on as well. I'll be taking a good look at that truck as well as the new '05+ Tacomas when I retire my '01 Tacoma.
