The real like the one in the pic is fool proof.if u set it up right.here's a good rule of thumb.Take the lure u want to thro an tie it on.with the rod held parralell to the ground press the button to put the reel in free spool.the lure should fall to the ground at a nice,slow rate.There is a small nob for this adjustment on the right side under te drag star.It will be near impossible to backlash with the tension Nob in this position.Once u get a little more balsy u can loosen up so the lure falls more slowly.U can thro lures with that real as light as 3/8 but I would not attemp it as a novice with lures of less thsat 1.5 onces.Get use to it then go from there.Another note.Large lures like danny's that tumble are more likely to foul up ur reel then lets say a smilin bill jig.what happens is the lure will start to tumble an slow down midflight.this will cause the line to not pull out as fast as the spool is moving.thats where a trained thumb comes in.practice with things that cast good like poppers an metals.u'll be a pro in no time.
