I fish several locations that will produce several fifties over the next ten years, these same locales will also produce even more nights of nothin, nada, zip, zero, el-skunko... and if ya miss that one night.. well, you all know the rest of the story....

but,....
they will also provide enjoyable nights of catching fish, some large, some small, and even if the fish aren't there, they will also provide evenings of solitude, soul cleansing, and head clearing........ evenings of companionship with good friends and good times, and many memories.....

there are NO Guaruntees... it's fishing!

10 years is a long time...

I like change, so my answer is NO. Somenights I like to hear the roar of the surf beating the sand, somenights I like to hear the rolling of the rocks as the wave recedes back into the ocean...not to mention that I would like to think that I already fish more than 1 spot that may produce a 50lb. class fish. So on one of those nights that I didn't catch the 50 at the guaranteed spot, I'd be saying to myself...

"I should have gone to blah, blooh, blah spot instead, I bet they were there tonight..."

...and God only knows, I say that enough already...so my answer is definately NO.

All you can do is put yourself in a right place, at a right time...and pray,,,because no-one really knows "THE", right place and time.

..sorry Karl, we must have been posting at de same time

Nope. I hate fishing the same spot all the time. And some spots I hate fishing period, I don't care what's there. You'd never see me fishing the canal, even if 50's were being hooked every other cast.

I like to mix it up, keep it interesting and find where the fish are. Like others have said, I'd rather have consistent fish in the 20's-30's than one 50.

You'd NEVER hear me say that

The Canal is a BIG place, and when fish are feeding on top...they can be taken anywhere in that ditch...and for the bottom seekers, there are some nice alley ways and pockets down there too.. Don't get hung-up on the HR area...way OVER-RATED and POPULATED. If Canal reports had verified 50s on "every other cast", I'd rush down there ASAP! It can be a fun place to catch fish...but,,,,stay away from the crowds, some people don't get the drift

...funny thing is, the Canal is one of those places you could confine yourself to. It has quite a few species that venture in and out and take residence through-out the season...sorry

My answer is still NO...Krispy

I like to try a lot of different places....its part of what I enjoy about fishing. I'm always moving around (a Little harder thanx to the gas prices). If a place was going to cough up a 50 I'd probably swing by it a few extra time a season but I couldn't fish it every night....I like variety.

...and I love the Canal, Going to spend quite a few nights there this year.

interesting subject. i hear what you're asking, krispy.

personally, i fish many spots that are known for "giving up" a 50 or having a solid chance at getting that 50. do i fish them, yup. will i fish only one of those spots every night in a given month if i knew that one night it would "give up" a 50? probably not. i will fish the spots where i feel they are just as good to give up that 50, maybe more so at spot "b" or "c" than this spot "a" we might be ficticiously referring to. maybe on that given tide, wind, moon, month, current condions, or whatever, the other spot(s) might be a better percentage for that queen. i won't wait to be "lucky", but put experience in my favor of being where that 50, or large in general, will be.

two more points... 1.) any night i can just get out to fish is a bonus over the last year or so. sometimes i dont care that much about what particular spot i am at, but that i know i have a good chance of having something pulling in stripes on the other end.

2.) many can simply fish one spot and as DZ said, that spot will most likely have "it's day". but, the person that understands how to read a fishing area and understands the current conditions (tide, wind, patterns, etc.) put themselves in the "spot" that might best yield that 50.

Lots more to fishing than catching that lunker.
Some of my best times fishing were days I got skunked.
So my answer wouldbe no.
While I do fish to catch fish, I fish to enjoy first. Sometimes its the company, surroundings, solitude, relaxation, weather, or just to watch some others having a good time. All depends on mood.
There is something about watching some tourist's kid that is seeing the Atlantic for the first time,,,,, and then catching their first ever schoolie that makes fishing good.
Or an oldtimers stories of times gone by when you could fish anywhere and sell your catch for enough to subsidise a fishing vacation that is good.
Even having a "know-it-all" telling you how they would do something (and realise they were really messed up) that can make me enjoy a good grin.
To fish 1 spot for 10 yrs. as a priority, and possibly miss some of this? Naw, not my idea of why I fish.
To each their own though.

I agree with saltheart... fish whenever you can...
to put all your eggs in one basket i would say no..there are places that will produce 50's consistently but there are also other spots where you could have a 200+ pound night easily

interesting responses here, I have to agree with you guys that would rather have consistent, good fish, rather than that one 50. After all, 50 IS just a number and that is not what it is all about. I have been having a ball just catching the 14 inch schoolies lately, all I really ask if for a couple of keepers here and there to feed my face!
The famous Thoreau quote applies here: "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after"
