Sorry Dave. Read it wrong.

I have to admit I've cast from the road, but never over anyone's head---or, at least never over the head of anyone I wasn't friends with

It's basically the same deal as when a bunch of guys are standing at the water and a fish breaks. If I see it before anyone else, I'm casting on it. Even if it's not right in front of me. If someone else gets on the break first, I hold up. If the guy misses, the fish is fair game for anyone else
