The Saltiga may be sealed, but the close tolerances between the spool and the rotor can cause sand jamming issues. It's more of a reel for the rocks.

There's a place in most anglers' arsenals for both reels, IMO. The Saltiga drag is about the best there is, and the innards are strong enough.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

I fished with 2 local guys last week in Montauk. We went down the south side a few points got way out an fished offa some rocks>In a good swell.every 10 mins or so u get knocked off. They Had been usin their Saltiga 4000 series reels for 2 yrs with no care other than some fresh water every now an then. They loved em.
They are a very fine tuned machine make a VS look like a 706.I think the power of the Saltiga is what put that jig into my noggin.
I'm sold. Now if I could just catch a fish on mine..

FORE!
It's usually darkest just before it turns Black..

What about the original question.

Anyone got any answers? I've got the thing apart and I'm looking at the damn spool washers with a magnifying glass right now in order to figure this out.
