The big thing I learned this year has to do with fishing rough water. And the reason I learned it was becuase I stopped listening to other people, who told me that it was "too rough" or "not worth it". Had a few nights this year where I would ordinarily have gone home and went back to bed.. One night really sticks out. Got to the spot with F18 there was a guy there I know... he was walking back and said, "I didn't even take a cast... way to rough." Well he was right about the too rough part because after I got on my rock I was forced backwards while my korkers slid like skates across the rocks... the surges went from dry rock to waiste deep white water.. somehow I stayed on my feet ... I changer position and took a cast BANG fish on... next cast another. There were rollers coming in that looked like the beginning of Hawaii 5-0 but the fish were there heavy. Had several fish from 20 to almost 30#... F18 broke off one that had to go much higher. This basically means that I'll be risking my life more often next year

Push myself a little further ... although be smart about it as I usually wound up falling in when doing that ... ... but wound up getting the fish too ...

... fish lighter, as I tend to use about four to six plugs everytime I am out ... I don't necessarily have to be prepared like a boy scout every time I fish - lean and mean ... or hire a sherpa to carry my crap ...

... build in extra time for fishing ...

... get the digital waterproof camera to take photos.

I'm willing to help you out with this one. The best way to only fish 4 to 6 plugs.......is to only OWN 4 to 6 plugs. I know Julie wants you to throw out some of the old Plugs, You don't Want to carry around a lot of Plugs, and I have plenty of room for Plug Storage at my House.....Seeeee Its a Win-Win-Win situation.

The number of times you go fishing per year, how many fish you catch, how big they are, how expensive your rig is, the number of casts you take, how serious you are...doesn't matter, as long as you have a good time.

The importance of tides was big for me last year. Keeping the tide chart handy was a big improvement in my past technique of just going when I had the spare time. I still do that but try to plan it out on the appropriate tide changes. I also discovered how relaxing chunking on the beach can be. I managed to get some quality time with the wife on the beach with a chunk in the surf and catch a few while lounging with the lady.

I learned that fishermen are being denied access to the shore at an alarming rate. And it's being reserved for those with political and monetary clout. If we're to remain shore fishermen, we're gonna have to fight for the beaches.
