I LOVE this topic! YA HOO! I could see myself really getting into this!!!! Actually...I could see myself trying to "modify" more than making my own from a hunk of wood (I just barely passed woodworking in school.....and that was probably because I was the only girl in the class... ) but anyway....

Either way its very interesting to me and I cant wait for the plug building forum!!!! Good Luck!

oh....guess what??? I think I am # 92 BTW!!!

Ok here's what you do .Get some plugs that catch fish. Now copy them as to where the hooks go, how they're rigged, how the lure is weighted, shaped etc.Take it from there. As far as painting goes I use spray cans like Tattoo and Slip but I got myself half talked into an airbrush gun.You can only do so much with a spray can. Here's some stuff i've been making lately for kicks. These are fly rod size lures which I collect. As you can see you can get some good paint effects even on small baits like these.Course I could do some really nice stuff with an airbrush but I dunno, your looking at a couple of hundred bucks at least for a good one with all the stuff you need.

Funny thing about Canal rocks ....
There used to be a certain Canal fisherman who was far and above the rest of his colleagues.
Red Top used to have a weekly Canal fishing contest. Since this individual won it so often they finally did away with it. As he got older his legs were wracked with arthritis. His upper body however, was strong. He used to muscle flat rocks into good locations so he could sit on them as he cast and retrieved his beloved Cap'n Bill swimmers.
It became a local joke among Canal anglers to 'look for the flat rocks', since they signified his choice locations.
When he passed away his coffin was surrounded in a sea of flowers that were arranged in such a way to form a giant striped bass.

Anybody know his name??

Ever find any of his flat rocks??

Great story, I fish with a guy like this, They are truly a story in them selves. I am humbled to be in there presants. I know a fue of them in my neck of the woods. Still walking around. They are not all dead, but some people wish they were.
They still making me feel "stupid" about the business after Forty years of fishing only "Stripers".

You are only as good as the person who’s driving the boat! By the way, the Devil drives my boat!

Don't know the guys name but probably seen him at one time or another. Look at the rocks closely on the Ditch and it does tell a story. You can see where some guys make a nice flat spot with rocks to where they cast and a worn trail through the bushes is usually a good spot or a lobster trap.

Where'd they go?!?!?
What a morning to see Ken's SN, and remember.

oh man, sorry to rehash memories of 10x10. I bumped this to the top only because of the funny antics and the request for a plugbuilding forum. Look what that forum has become! 10x10 was before my time here, and i wish i could have met him, but it sliped my mind last night that he has passed away.
