When he says he bought 70 pink bombers he aint fibbin. It was really hard to see what was in there, some many reels, rubba things, and eye balls looking at you it was hard to focus.

It kind of looked like a rainbow, all kinds of pretty colors.

Hey Tattoo, BM and 10X10,

You know, part of what makes lures successful is their versatility. If you make a plug that only works in one area, well that's not a very good lure.

This is why I propose you give me a bunch of lures to try out down here in CT land. Then I can try them here and if they work here, we can safely assume that it will work in all the areas inbetween.

So send me your lures. I'll run them around.

Patrick..How is a plug that is created for a specific set of conditions at a certain location not successfull when it slaughters the fish while nothing else will. I would say it is the most successfull!! Why? Because the fisherman studied the area and came up with the perfect solution. Time to take your head out of the sand again.

Send them to you...why so you can look at them and fish them once a year?

Charlie

I agree Charlie, the only thing I have noticed is that LARGER plugs work better in certain areas than others. Like the canal, the bigger the better. Actually the whole cape for that matter.

Enough of a difference from one state to the next will keep you guessing. The guy who can figure it out in all states gets the stripe.

Patrick, you only fish once a year?

Charlie, tell them how hard it is to get plugs outta me...

Charlie,

You're really messing up my plug scam.

Tattoo,

I fish as much as I can but this year, I haven't really had the heart for it. Just too much going on and scheduling conflicts and yadda yadda yadda. Plus our season hasn't been going so well down here. You know how it goes.

Patrick, no I don't know how it goes. I force myself to go weather I want to or not. You cant sit home and catch fish from the couch!

Here's what I tell my wife in April, See you on Thanksgiving.

You can imagine how well that goes over.

CT must have fish, you just need to hunt for them.

Trade eh? My interest is piqued.

Once I get the rod building thing going, how about a nice custom rod for some nice custom plugs? We'll hammer something out. Lots of variables to discuss.

First and foremost, throughwired. and must have eyes.

No fancy colors needed. Black, White and Yellow.

We have smaller bait here so I need smaller plugs. Modeled after the big plugs but 1/2 oz to 2 oz. But I'm mainly looking for lures in the 1/2 to 1 1/4 oz area.

Whatever designs you feel most comfortable with. small panlips, bottles, needlefish, and whatever else you make.

Of course, the number of plugs I recieve is dependent on the outcome of my price and vice versa.

If you are interested, I think we should charge each other just for materials. Why keep track of time and stuff when it's between friends?

Now I give you my word. Believe me, I'm a man of my word. I'll do everything in my power to give you the rod you want. I'll test it, I'll get everything just right or I'll cut the threads off and start over, at my own cost of course. If either person is unhappy with the other's production, they reserve the right break the deal and keep their own goods.

The only problem I can see is if you want a blank I can't get my hands on or a blank that's a 1 piece over 10 feet.

Now, I'm not a rodbuilder yet. Just give me some time to get things down and when I get results that satisfy my highest standards, we'll knock out the odds and ends if you are interested.

OK - you got one vote

Patrick - when you have a couple years of rod building under your belt (as in building rods for 2 years and not you built a rod 2 years ago) you may wish to barter a bit. In the meantime, take a few of what you have, go down to the reef, and wet a line...

Here is a stupid question... (there's no such things as stupid questions, only stupid people who ask questions)

How do you do the awesome paint jobs? I mean the ones where the top paint fades into the bottom? Also, how do you get that awesome scale finish? Not with tubraid, just with the paint.

John,

This is where my OCD is helpful. I'm anal about getting things right. If I don't like how it turns out, I'm not above starting over. Like I said before, once I get my feet on the ground and I make my rods and Mindi's rod, I'm open for trades. I would NEVER EVER make a rod for someone without knowing what I'm doing. If mine turn out well, then I'll move forward.

The next Al Goldberg? I don't think so. Rod building isn't going to be a business for me. Just something for myself and something I can use to barter other goods with.

I'll be open to all sorts of different stuff to barter so pay attention. Once you see my work and you're interested, might be able to trade you a rod for whatever.

Plus my aunt and uncle are huge fishermen. Walleye, black bass, perch, bluegill, catfish, they catch them all. Custom rods might be a nice way to pay them back for all the trips they've taken me on and all the birthday and christmas cards.

Pat;

With the paint jobs you use spray cans. To get the color to fade into the other color, you spray it from above. To get the scale look, you use a screen and spray through that.

P.S. The reason I know, is I asked the same ques. of 10x10 a while ago. he does some really nice work.

Invest in an air brush. It's well worth the money.

This plug post should hit 100.?

Hope it does hit 100. I'm defintely interested in learning more. Some more questions:
How do you know where to put the belly hook?
What kind of hooks do most people use, open eyed or with split rings?
What size hooks?
How do you know how much weight to put in a particular plug and where?

Dont look at me to do it slip,
spray paint cans is what i use, You can fade the sides to a purple gold by holding the can far from the plug as in gold base coat and then fog with purple, its killer i came up with one day and works.Tattoo try'd to rip me off , but i got it back.
For your hooks ,depends on the size of the lure.
Up front Ya can use a 2/0 vmc treble and a 3/0 in back or a siwash hook. and split rings. YOU can make the needle go pkunk by weighting it with led shot in the middle and at 1 extra in back for casting balance. If you want a verticle floater Ya drill the back and weight it in the butt. if you want it to sink use a little more lead, also the hooks add weight so a lure that barely floats will may sink with the hooks. I use rod builders apoxy. Hay slip I hit tony stetzko's plug bag good. he coulda got me back tue night when i was in the suds
2 was a good year...... Im rotten aint I
