Sorry to hear that John. Can you swing a hammer or run a screwgun?

Just kidding on the construction thing. Like others have posted, this could be a good thing. A blessing is disguise if you will. Good luck with your job search.

After the pit in the belly goes away, you will find something to your advantage. Be patient and I am sure you will be offered something as good or better.

Ever think of running an IT franchise? I talked to CMIT Solutions once and they seemed a pretty reasonable operation.

Not sure if you know about the Rhode Island Networking Group (RING). You'll find them on the web. Pretty good network.

Well yea it sort of makes sense why they let you go....you know computers basically run themselves and everything. Plus no one really knows if this whole computer thing will catch on so why pay someone to manage something that may not stick around!!!!

Brilliant people over there running that show John. I'm sorry to hear this but things happen for a reason and I am willing to bet you land something better. You do a great job here and this is a big community so I'm sure there are lots of eyes and ears out for something, I know I will. Good luck.

Sorry to hear this John. Sometimes another ,better door opens when one closes. Hey it would be a real shame if they were left with no tech support and the whole system sorta "fell apart". Man that would be terrible....

Hey Guy ....... that REALLY sucks ......... but you know you WILL have the last laugh when they call you to fix something they can't because you are the only one that knows the quirks of the system. Then you can charge a hefty fee and have the educated idiots that don't understand technology personally hand it to you while they kiss your a## ............. Make sure you get a picture of it !!!!!!!!

Shoot ....... you'll make more money for 1/2 the work on the outside anyway ........

Totally agree w/ RHahn427! (Not "the" Bob Hahn?)...

You'll make a bundle offering them Consulting services when they inevitably need you again once gone (if you so wish to)... or certainly get a better- paying & more growth- oriented job in the private sector (ahem... Finance/ Trading Co.!)

Generally it's always better for a techie in most ways (learning/ adding skills/ environments) in a private Co. w/ $ to burn on the latest & greatest new Techs... and other guys there you can learn from, vs. running the show & being "Mr. everything!" in the public sector. Boy, I guess I know which schools in RI I won't be sending my kids to!

Good luck regardless-- I know you'll be fine from this John, be confident! If you're open to the NYC area (I know, horrors!)... perhaps I could assist?

It won't be a virus on July 1st it will be a High School student on the 1st week of school with whatever tricks they tried to figure out over the summer to circumvent the firewall / state content filters (TOR / Teredo anyone?). If that's not it then it will be the fact that daily all over the world compromising people or compromised machines hit US school districts due to the fat pipes and often poor tech we have. Think cyberwar and ground zero being your local public school system...

Beyond $75/hour consulting has to go to bid ($100 I think for higher stuff CISCO, etc). But I told my boss I'd do it for $75 if I have to go onsite or $65 if I do it remotely

The Bob Hahn?

Yes - I'm looking as to where I will go and make a lot more. I figure doubling my Pub Education salary is not out of the question. But I do miss doing it all (the last job desctiption I want is to be called "Patches" because that's all I do in a large environment ), and so will they.
