i fished commercially offshore for 12 years, was engineer on a 123 foot hydraulic nightmare for 7 of those years and have had enough near death experiences to probably write a book. when i took the captain site on a smaller boat (87 footer) there was one thing that i learned and that is to "make it work". i didn't give up fishing to get stranded offshore in some tiny little boat and become the next days headline. i would have made it home, may have had to limp, but i would have had my feet on the beach. i am glad that things worked out well for those guys when they had their problems the next day
