i used to think that too.. this year found the exact opposite. my biggest producer this year was wiiiiiiiiiide open sandy beach from 9am till around 2pm. on nice bright hot sunny days in the middle of july. no cover what so ever. that same spot same tides was significantly slower at night. and produced much smaller fish. the nice warm outgoing flow was the best.
i think whats more important than the light is the water temps..
for instance.. if the water is lower.. why the hell would bass want to hide? they basically sun themselves. warm up a bit. just like a sunning reptile. so if temps are below the comfort zone fish will be in wide open water getting nice and warm. if the water temps are high.. then the exact opposite. and they avoid the sun at all costs.
i really really dont pay any initial attention to day or night. first i consider the water temps. then from there.. then i figure out the best time or place.
put it this way.. say it's 50 degrees out.. nice but not hot.. are you gonna sit in the shade? probably not cause it's more comfortable in the sun. and when its 95 your gonna hide under something.
the main problem with day time fishing is people... i was forced out of my spot by beach people. if i was awake for 7am out going i could squeeze in a few hours till i got crowed out.
i need to get out there tomorrow..now that i have waders. see what happens. but i think the water is a bit to warm for the day down there right now. atleast on sunny days.
