Workplace rules????

Our employee handbook doesnt specify if making out your xmas cards while your on the clock is acceptable or not. What do you guys think?
I think its clear about the online shopping, 45 minute personal phone calls and LONG lunches though......

Simplify.......

I think it's acceptable as long as you give them credit for the company stamps that you are using.

If you are hired to work for someone you should do just that. They pay you to do their work, not your stuff.

Jenn,

I believe if you check the very last page of the hand book it CLEARLY states that you can do just about anything you like while on company time as long as you don't get caught.
Unfortunately, most companys remove the very last page so that we, as employees cannot take advantage of those opportunitys, but just know that they exist and are there for you at any time.

I used to take smoke breaks outside with the people that smoked. This one time, a manager came out and asked what I was doing.....I said, "taking a smoke break"....he said, "but you don't smoke!!! Get back inside!!".....so I had to start smoking in order to get that extra break. Now I'm sue-ing the company for my addiction. ...See...you can't lose when you use the "Force" against them.

gone fishin must be a business owner, disregard his remarks....he probably ripped that page out of his hand book too.

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

I'll second that sentiment......They pay you for 40 hours and that is what you should give them.

What does it say about office love triangles or sharing online pornsite downloads?

Why even try.........

I know that feeling. Half of our department smokes.. Every 90 mins or so they are out there for 10-15 mins..

and I get looks for walking to dunkin donuts occasionally to grab a coffee (generally back in 10 mins)... AND I usually work thru lunch..

blah

Don't worry about doing personal work on company time, someone else will take care of what you are supposed to be doing. Most somewhat skilled workers only cost their employers about $0.50/minute pay and benefits.

I guess you could take the position that "if you cant show me a rule against it, I'll keep on doing it". But then again they could take the position that "you're an employee at will and you don't work here anymore".

The beatings will continue until morale improves

It's actually compensation for all the times you think about work during your "Off-time".

How many times have you gone home for the night....and while at home, you figure out a problem that you left behind at work???? How do you get paid for that time???

Here enters the Christmas Card writing!! .... ....

Well if you are working under my supervison you will not smoke unless at lunch or coffee break, you will be there at least 5 minutes early and not clean up until 15 minutes before it is time to leave, if the company makes money we make money. Oh and the biggest thing that doesn't happen is personal cell phone calls the most waste of company time.

thanks for the laughs....I really needed it.

I dont have a problem with the little "here and there" kind of things but someone has definately been pushing the envelope at work/////and now literally with the christmas card thing. I would say at least half the day is spent online, on personal calls ...making out cards or flipping through sales flyers. There is WAY more to the story than I can get into here but thanks for letting me vent!

Simplify.......

I have a budget meeting every other week, and if the job I am running doesn't come in under budget it looks bad for me and will reflect in my review. the other thing is we get profit shearing so the more money the company makes the bigger bonus checks we get. and kids these days if you give them an inch they will take it all. the work ethic these days is shameful.

Oh! I thought that you were the employee. You are the employer!!! I take it all back. FIRE THE S.O.B. [but not until AFTER Christmas] All kidding aside-just let the person know that your P.Od. and give him [her] a warning. Nothing like being up front with people.

wow, now you guys are REALLY making me laugh!!!

I am not the employer....actually the accused is the person one step ahead of me in ranks.....and that person is about 50...so the "kids these days" comment doesnt really cover that basis either...WTF!!! Hard to keep the animosity down and morale up among the department when I have to deal with that.
Best part is the person I am talking about is also trying to "trick" me into giving a less than favorable year end review to another employee.......I going to have to make some waves about that one......

Simplify.......
