I want Charlie Soares' new book, and hopefully new book by John Skinner ,the surf editor of Noreast. One of the best surfcasting minds around.I heard his book is in print right now.
Re-read Shinning Tides as I do every year.Probably my favorite book

Thanks to many of you for planning to read my new book.I hope I don't annoy anyone by my inability to judge demand ,especially in RI but I am out of books. The first print run has sold out, and next printing is in works for late January.Unfortunate ,due to some corrections necessary ,and this being a Christmas season, everything moves at glacial pace. What it means is that I probably wont be able to restock your local retailer if he runs out of books.Plenty of Striped-bass.com sponsors have them in stock ,including SWE,SRI ,M&D's and others so if you want them under the tree, I suggest you start typing now....

Happy Holidays

What do you like so much about Shining Tides? I have it but haven't read it yet.

Anymore news on the 2 other books you mentioned?

I like the story about a man a nd a giant bass.Although it was printed more than 50 years ago, the manner in which was writen will never go out of style

Finished it up
Its about a seasons worth of experiences from beginning to end on Long Island. Not actually one season but many stories woven into one season.
His stories keep you glued to the pages and his writing style transforms you on location. You almost feel like you are standing next to him and casting.
Although this is not a "how-to" book ,if you ever wanted to know what makes one of the best surfcasters on East Coast tick, how he makes decisions of where to go,what are his reasoning when taking in account baitfish ,current and winds you have to read this book.

Thanks for the review Zeno. It sounds good. I assume it is a Montauk based book or, at least, an LI theme. That would be a good thing for a change of pace. I have fished Montauk several times and it has always amazed me that good story books are nonexistent for M. All those people next to the literary capital of the US and it is a dead zone for the written word. The stories are certainly there. I always thought M would be the perfect counterpoint to Post's "Reading the Water". Maybe this is a start of a trend. There certainly has been a flood of bass books lately. The more the better I say because it establishes a subculture that the web or TV just can't duplicate.

John Skinner's name sounds familiar. I can't remember where I saw it. It may have been on the forums or maybe he was a guy I remember reading in On The Water. I just googled him and yup he is the bearded On The Water guy I remember.

John Skinner's book is an excellent read. I read it twice. Once for enjoyment. Then again for content.
