I understand Parker 23's feelings but experience has taught me that its your own fault for telling someone. If they repeat something you told them , the bottom line is that its was your own fault for talking about it in the first place.

The flip side is that there really are no "secret spots around here. Its a small state and many people know "all the spots". What people most often don't know is when a spot is hot. So while I don't get major heart burn when someone names a spot , I do get a little miffed when they blab it right when its still hot.

Talking about spots with friends is way different than talking spots on the internet. If mouth to mouth blabbing gets the message to 10 people in a month , the internet is more like 1000 people in a night. To me , you need to protect the spots access from the 1000's. The fish come and go. What's hot today is cold tomorrow but once access is denied to a spot by private property owners who are pissed because suddenly there are 50 people in their backyard instead of 5 , that access usually never gets restored. The shear numbers involved on the internet make spot burning here way more damaging than talking mouth to mouth amongst friends.

Lastly , I want to say that good friends are more important than good fishing spots. Do learn to keep your own mouth shut but don't get too angry at a frined who has blabbed about a spot. Its not worth it.

Mike I would agree with what your saying execpt, nobody told me anything?? thats the point I have tried to make?? He certainly didnt put me on that spot.....So it wasnt a matter of him telling me anything? the whole thing is useless...I would almost go as far as saying the more I read it that he is fabracating the whole thing? All that was ever said to me was "hey there are some fish at so and so" Big deal, thats all it was...Funny part was I never asked him for it and it wasnt even him who told me that?? Its a spot I fish on a regular basis anyway..As far as I am concerned I can whatever I want even though I didnt...It was tv SHOW ????????

Wow..

I have no idea who told who , etc in this particular case. . I do know Bill that you , like me , don't need anyone to show them fishing spots in RI. Once you have put in enough time to know the entire coast , there simply are no more secret spots.

BTW , I remember when you and I rattled off some 60 , 70 or whatever number of spots all across the state from Naps to Little Compton one offseason when this site first started.

Anyway , I am sure that not even all the fishing spots put together is worth losing a friend over.

Much of the problem is that there are only so many spots, if you fish enough, you are bound to fish on someone else's...so called spot. First of..No one owns a SPOT...This land is OUR land, we all have the right to fish where ever we want to.. I fish hundreds of different spots and have been for probably 25 years, boat and shore..Are they all my SPOTS..NO!...Do I get pissed when I see someone else fishing it...Not really..I may just pass it up and come back to it when it's less crowded..Bruce, the spot I think you speak of (haven't seen the show yet) is a spot I fished 20 years ago..Do I claim it to be my spot? NO, I'm sure many others have fished it way b4 I did. Who cares who is fishing what spot, fish have fins...It's more so about the fisherman who can trick the fish, not so much the SPOT. I got over the Spot thing along time ago, now I just like to respect another's space and hope everyone does the same for me. Just my opinion on the whole Spot thing.
