Cape Cod

Does anyone know, if it is possible to catch striped bass on Cape Cod as early as March, or is that too early. For example, off the south beaches or Specifically, off the jetti in the herring river next to the Belmont.

I'm sure people catch them there all winter long.... they are just more scarce than they would be in say April and June. The place where usually the first stripers make their rounds is off South Cape beach. I live right down the road to there and that has been a very good spot in the past.

You can catch holdovers throughout the winter on the Cape.

takes a little bit for people to get "specific" ----> that tends to be called spot burning..... your lucky you got a beach out of me

Try Wellfleet off the area where the beachcomber is. I heard that my friend got a keeper just recently there.

I suspect in this particular case, "keeper" means kept overnight and then released the next morning.......

how about that 2 new members on the same thread - welcome Ocean (too much info) and deanyoungblood. Just talking about spots will set some members into orbit.

Welcome to you both.

If you really want the big bass and lots of them check out New York.
The fishing on the Cape has really slowed in recent weeks.

Anyway you slice it, I don't think you're going to get a crowd in February - figure if they got the enthusiasm, help them out...

DYB - might be tough then but anything is possible. Late March may bring some holdovers out in various places. Best bet is probably in late afternoon on a sunny day. Bring small coahaoes and teasers...

Find the warm water discharge of a power plant on a (any) tidal river. There are bound to be schoolies.
