But.. all in all, I cant fault you.. I just love tweaking the anti MS fanboys. If linux works for you and your needs, then I think its great that you use it. Its perfect for someone who can actually use a computer, but doesnt use it for much outside the basics. Someday it might be a truly viable competitor, but untill then, its certainly not for everyone. I work for Plumchoice/Firedog part time, and 99% of the people I talk to do not even know what an address bar is in Internet explorer or firefox. That damn google toolbar/yahoo toolbar/aol toolbar/etc is a plague that needs to die.
Personally if I were ever going to drop windows it would be for OSX

Sorry Brian,but you've misunderstood.
Linux=open source(free and fully tweakable).
Windows(Mac)=closed source(pay and you get what you pay for.)
I can tweak my OS,you cannot.
Btw you can use Linux for way much more than the "basics" as you've stated.WAY much more.
I'm just a guy who doesn't like paying for unnecessary sh!t...which in this case is all the BS that comes with Windows(Mac).
As far as calling me an MS antifanboy, keep the childish remarks to yourself.
You want childish:You work for Firedog partime installing TVs and PCs for an electronics chain store. That's really cool...there's some good credentials .See how childish that sounds.Btw try not mixing your retorts in with the quote, very confusing to a dumb Linux guy.
Stop.Just stop.I'm done with this bullsh!t and won't play this game.I posted something that people like me might be interested in and all I get is grief.
Thanks.

No.. I work PART time... 15 hours a week, in my basement, cleaning up spyware for people who cant function even the most simple commands... If I am going to sit in front of a PC at night, I might as well get paid to do it.
I work FULL time as a .Net programmer at a lawfirm in downtown Boston. Ive been there for 8 years... I rose the ranks from Desktop support, to apps specialist, to telecom specialist, to where I am now.
and no.. I have not misunderstood.... not at all... because the "basics" are something that a vast majority of the country cannot do. Which is why linux is and will be a niche OS for home users for the foreseeable future.

Yes,you have completely misunderstood.
You've bought into the idea that the vast majority can't learn and therefore there's need for you($).Teach the masses Linux and you have no job.
Linux is a "niche" OS?Huh?Linux(Unix) is older than you are!
Full time as a .Net programmer for a law firm and all that from desktop to apps., better send your resume straight to Bill's office CUZ you're hired.Windows Vista 2.0 by you!NOT!
Just because you make a living off of Windows, don't insult the rest of us who choose to steer clear of that sh!t.
Open source=free.
What you do=$$$
Simple.
Get it?
Probably not.
Thankyou.

and it seems you have bought into the idea that if Linux ever DID take any sort of relevant share of the home market, that it would remain free. Its free now because its a hobbyists toy. Sure the OS might remain free, but developers have itchy fingers and everyone wants to make a buck.
or is the world going to join hands together in unity and sing campfire songs and suddenly forget materialism?
Everything comes with a cost be it time or $$.
Work on passing OSX for market share - till then, its a niche market... I dont care how old it is. 2%.. woo!

You know why linux will never go anywhere?
People like you.
The high and mighty OMG MS SUX LOLOLOLOLOLOL group.
You give off a terrible image of yourselves. You sit there and freak out any time someone second guesses your OS. Everyone thinks you're a bunch of nerds in your mom's basement.
You're the worst kind of computer user.
You think your garbage packaging system doesn't smell, well guess what? THEY'RE ALL TERRIBLE.
None of you can agree on one packaging system to unify everything. Its the same stupid story year after year and its why you're all still divided.
And please, stop grouping linux with unix.
Its not the same, linux is loosely BASED on unix.
Much like osx is loosely BASED on the bsd kernel.
You're not using unix. You're not the pioneers. You're just the metoo's.
In reality the costs are the same to maintain linux servers as they are MS servers. How would I know? I've spent more time at the old Exodus hosting in Burlington than you've probably spent in the entire industry around people who actually pioneered whats important in the computing world on this coast.
Server level:
MS: upfront OS costs, support costs/average admin salary lower
Linux/BSD: free OS, average admins looking for more money for relatively closed market experience.
Desktop level:
MS/Apple: more user familiarity, much lower cost support solutions
Linux/BSD: learning curve to get users up on common tasks necessary, need to hire trainers for normal tasks, yet again, need for experienced admins at higher salaries.
All around costs:
MS/Apple: much more diverse driver and software support. ability to go directly to the vendor if assistance needed.
Linux/BSD: LOL drivers LOL vendor support (even ex-alias|wavefront will laugh in your face if you ask for support for their $24,000 software package Maya)
