Thumbs up

Aurora !! yeah that was it....

we had this train tunnel over the track and we'd let the cat chase the car into it and stop.... cat would look in other end...and we'd back up.... cat would switch to front and we'd speed ahead....

freekin cat would go so mental that it was tons of fun...
as much as fishing for cats with a catnip mouse and then some...

my brother figured out how to cheat those cars...

first he'd take a razor blade and slice little slots into the
tires for more traction like tire tread....

then he'd sand the pancake gear i think... to make them lighter... special oil for wheel axels and the whole bit...

got to be a real down in the pits competition for awhile

Arrow

my Dad had everything outlined... in white on pegboards
and everything had it's place....

when you were a bad boy... your sentence was to organize the shop until it sparkled like a treasure room

God, I just remembered my Dad and my step-grandfather Harold making me a complete set-up for a Lionel train set on plywood that Pop painted and put the little trees and people on it and everything, it was pretty detailed, Pop did a beautiful job- big Christmas surprise for a 7 year old!

It had the log-loader and everything, nice transformer, two different engines and you could put the pellets in one of the engines to make it smoke...and the whole thing was on casters so it would slide under my bed.

Man, I used to love that set-up, wish I had it today.

Sorta got in trouble one time...... me and my cousin Richard got caught staging head-on train wrecks...

Pop wasn't real happy with me, either.

"For Chrissakes, what the hell is wrong with that kid?"

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

Aurora Cars

My Brothers....vintage mid-60's! I remember the oily smell from running them for hours on end!! Our basement was a myriad of slotcar and train setups on plywood on top of our old pool table and ping pong table! Those were great days!
