Red collar or green collar doesn't matter. Its a unique thing for each person. We all get old. Assuming you stay psyched to fish and fish hard when you go , the activity itself keeps you in shape until you turn a corner when do to age and deterioration the activity starts to wear you down. Luck relative to injuries or disease determines how quickly you age in this sport.

have to disagree with you there. i think relying on fishing to keep you in shape is a mistake. just look around. as far as fitness benefits of fishing, its really an easy activity - no matter how "extreme" you try to make it.

if anything, the lack of sleep probably has worse effects on overall health than any benefit of being "active"

I agree with this. Fishing alone no matter how "hard" you fish doesnt take the place of cardio, and core/weight training, eating clean, that is needed to really keep the body in shape. Being out in the surf all night, sleep deprevation, late night eating, coffee, red bull, isnt at all "good for you". Relying on some rock hopping, and some beach walking, little swimming, isnt going to GET you in shape.

I think it comes down to passion for the sport. I sit at a desk for 10 hrs a day and I'm beat both mentally and physically it just drains you. I feel worse than when I was doing 50hrs of manual labor. White or Blue it's in your blood. If I changed careers I would fish the same amount.
