Felt bottoms work great at the canal, except when trying to climb the banks at night/early in the morning. Having felt is like walking on ice when the grass is covered in dew.
That being said, those soles look like they'll have great grip on the rocks. Just be careful on the bubbleweed and the dark rocks close to the waterline and you'll be all set.
