This has not been my week !

1st my dog (who has never been sick 1 day in 8 years) dies,
today I spilled something on my cell phone, long story short, the screens are blank and I guess the phone is junk.
Go to the Verizon store, naturally no ins and out of warranty. Cost of new phone $420 + tax.
Guy suggest ebay or a friend or family who has the same phone they are not using.
Anyone bought a phone on ebay ???
Looks like I can get one for less than 1/3 of new.

ebay or craigslist.
as long as it's the same provider..verizon, att, whatever... go to the store and they should not have any trouble getting you hooked up.

careful with the "unlocked phones" I'd just stay with phones by your provider.

I have never bought one on ebay but if I did I would just make sure I checked their feedback and would use PP to get the buyer protection. I don't have a new one but if your in a bind I will give you one of my old phones because I too am a dog lover and feel your pain.

Every time I read the threads about someone losing a dog it brings back the time our Dalmatian slipped out the front door past me. I turned to chase him and realized he wasn't going to stop so once he got to the street I ran for my car. I got out of the driveway and went after him but he made it the 200-300 yards up the road to the main street; when I put the car into drive and got about 50' and heard the horn. When I got to the top of the street there was a mini van coming to a stop that ran him over. I jumped out of the car and knelled down and held him as he tried to take in air and after about 20 seconds he was gone. Meanwhile the woman who hit him said "I saw him coming and I hit the horn but he never stopped" to which I replied "try the brakes next time the dog was deaf", she said she never heard of a deaf dog and kept rambling nonsense. I said "just go and don't let it wreck your day" as I scooped him up and put him on the front seat and brought him home. We always keep our dogs in the fenced in back yard and this was just my mistake because I took my eye off him after opening the door. Still chokes me up to this day and it's been 9yrs.

Ron, take a ziplock bag and fill it with white rice. Put phone in with rice, let sit overnight - this may save the phone. I resurrected one that got inundated at Narrow River when waders disintegrated.

Ronnie, I work for a company that develops and sells mobile apps for banks and CUs. We buy literally hundreds of phones on eBay because we need to make sure our software will run on all the phones. The only caveat is make sure the phone you buy can be activated on the network provider you use.

No boat, back in the suds.

If some lady hit my dog and used that excuse she would be buried in the yard right next to my pup. I can't imagine going through that.

Ron, check with friends.....they usually have an old phone stuck in a drawer somewhere.

We used to have a couple spares kicking around....but my son washed two phones in week, so we went through them......he enjoyed carrying around a pink razor for 2 months though

Best bet is to get one off ebay from a seller w/ good feedback.
You can get them off Craigslist (I picked up an HTC Eris there a month ago) but you have to make sure you check the IMEI (get it from the seller and call Verizon, or make sure they show you that it still has signal on Verizon). A lot of people will report them stolen and then sell them on craigslist and you won't find out until you try activating it.

I'd try the rice trick and hope it works after a few days. Hope you pulled the battery as soon as you noticed something was wrong...

Very sorry reading that story about your dog.
I wonder if that knit wit would have had that same story/attitude if she ran over a kid ! For us dog owner/lovers it's just as bad !

Hi Ronnie,

I am so sorry to ready about you dog passing.

I am right there with you, I lost Hooper on June 3, very unexpectedly. We were watching some television when he stood up, walked into the hallway and started to convulse. As I held him, telling him it was okay, he went limp and died. The whole thing was over in about a minute. And, like your pup, this was a Lab that only went to the vet for annual vaccines and check-ups. My wife and I have no children, so he was our baby. It has been awful around here these last 6 weeks.

I'm sorry again Ronnie.

Phone update

Wouldn't you know my replacement phone showed up yesterday because the seller overnighted it, my wife calls me to let me know it showed up in the morning and I talked her into bringing it to me & take both phones to the verizon store close to where I work to activate the new one.
I hang up from talking to my wife and the damn screen starts working again (I could still answer with the old phone but not call because lcd screens were dead)
Took the phone, removed the battery and covers and put all of them on the dash of my truck for the rest of the day ( VERY hot inside my truck yesterday) to let it continue drying.
Other than some slight spots on the inside screen, the phone is fine now and I end up with a close to brand new one as a spare.

i used to work for a power supply company and one of the engineers dropped his phone in the toilet. Dead. He brought that thing into work and stuck in the pcb board oven on low heat all day.. Brought that fugger back to life. Learned that water is not a killer.. Salt on the other hand.
