Newport may not have the money, but if the right
ventures got behind a hosting push,,,,,,,,,,,,,it COULD happen.
There is more than enough money to bring it to Newport.
The powers that be are too happy in their little corner to bother.
Won't ever happen nor will there ever be a NYYC sponsored boat ever again.

SD: all the boats are original race boats or trial horses. No new 12's have been built.
And without major surgery/modifications (like adding a deck to keep the water out) most 12 meters would likely sink in offshore conditions. Can't imagine taking one to St Maarten on its own bottom....

Nirvana is at NEB next to Blue Yankee
Towse is now Commodore of NYYC. :O
I think Valiant, and maybe Heritage are housed up here.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
likwid~~~
i am talking about the avg conditions,,,,,,
i am sure that there have been many storms that could sink
these racing vessels out there; but, generally speaking, isn't the Pacific much calmer than the Mighty Atlantic??
what the frick do i know anyways,,,,,,,,,,,
the only sailing i've helmed was a 17' Prindle(sp?) on Lake Walden outside of Houston. or as rail meat for some of the local yokels out of Ida's. wish i knew more and sailed more to be honest. it's "a little" above my pay scale for the time being,,,,,,,,, still, i love to watch The Cup and i do believe that it would be GOOOOD for Newport!!

I have a friend who has been a captain on the 12's for over 10 years. And while they are not new, they are well maintained, regal vessels. He has some bone chilling stories about transporting boats back from St.Maarten.I've been down there to visit him before. If a 12 year old girl can sail around the globe,it can make transport look sane.
