Just another fall noreaster on the Cape. Rain, and wind, 35-40 sustained w/gusts to 50-60. Nothing out of the ordinary. Didn't see a single downed tree in my travels today.

woke me up at 3:30 AM, not sure what wind speed was, but it was a constant freight train sound, I think the strongest winds lasted til about 5 AM here, but continued well into late AM.. couple of oaks in my yard snapped, fortunately nothing hit. Lots of dead limbs and twigs down everywhere.... took a ride around town, CCBay was angry just after lunch time. and the sounds of chainsaws was abounding, saw lots of trees down around Orleans.

electricgenerator.com: The Leading Electric Generator Site on the Net
I bought a Gererac 8500KW, electric start, 4 110, 1, 220, $800 delivery included. Had the house panel wired for the generator. Bingo, lost power. Started the Generac. No problem.

only about 6" at my house.. killed my dog wood... I'm going to try and graft the main trunk back together, I sucessfully grafted another section about 10 years ago.. this time it's pretty bad... no major pine boughs.. ... the whole neighbor hood has been without power since 8:00 saturday night... lights and heat at my house curtosey of my 3500 watt Troy built.. it's enough for a few lights, heat and TV...
I fueled it up and checked the oil this morning before work.. hopefully power will be restored when I get home from work..

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Is grafting when you drill a hole between the split sides then bolt it together? If so, that method worked like a charm for my inlaws dogwood after one of last years late snow storms. I was seconds away from ripping the other half off, when my father in law said he was going to have it bolted. I never thought it had a chance, but both sides flowered and it looks good as ever.

I once had a burning bush shrub that split due to weather, wrapped the trunk pieces back together tightly with duct tape (use #1001) and in couple seasons was good as new. It has now been at least 15 years since and never split again.

Got about a foot here. My sister in the hills towns got 2 feet. so many trees down I wont even go into it!~We just got power back about an hour ago after being out since saturday afternoon. We were one of the first to get it back and the rest could be up to a week. First thing I did was let the house warm up, second was wash dishes, third was a nice long and hot shower
Tried to be a good trooper and got double duty from my camping gear but needless to say I am very happy to be warm again!

Thank God for having a wood stove and cooking with gas. It really isn't that bad once you get use to it. I miss tv and fresh hot coffee more than anything. I did read that national grid hopes o have power back for everyone in Massachusetts by Thursday night. I think it will be earlier than that for most. They look like heroes if they get it done earlier than their ETA

I cannot understand why you guys don't get generators. Even a 2000W will help you and that's a couple hundred bucks.
My buddy plugs his into the dryer plug and back feeds the whole house. I'm not saying that's the right way as I had mine wired into my main panel, but hell, if I was going to be out for a week I sure as hell would do it.
After Irene and no power for 5 days I said screw this and bought an 8500KW from:
electricgenerator.com: The Leading Electric Generator Site on the Net
BTW, Generac 3250 Watts. 120/ 220 2 year warrenty $439.00 free delivery and no tax

Just got my power on within the past 20 minutes ... it was an ice house here, sleeping fully clothed with a wool skull cap, warm in bed, cold heading to the head in the middle of the night ... food is probably all ruined

a generator is on our "to get" list but in this case that would not have helped for long since we couldnt even buy gas anywhere! If you could find a gas station that had gas and was open it was at least an hours wait in most cases

Maybe it's because I am former military but I always have 5 gallons of gas in my garage for emergencys. Put in a couple of ounces of fuel stablizer and you are good for a year.

we usually keep extra on hand too but when you suddenly need it for chain saws, snowblower and vehicle (because you LITERALLY could not buy it anywhere) the 10 gallons we had on hand went REAL quick.
I guess the point I was trying to make was even a generator under these conditions cant always be relied on as a back up plan. Its only helpful if you can keep it running.

Still no power. This is getting old now. When its light out I can see the disaster that is inside and outside of my house . I think my fishing season is over now. So much crap to do before winter really gets here. There was a guy yesterday selling generators from the back of his truck yesterday. The local cop said another2-3 days.

its all good,,,and yes we have power back. Just saying a generator can be a life saver but I just think too many people RELY on them and dont have a plan "B" so to speak. What if you cant get gas, what if the generator s&^%$ the bed, It just amazes me that so many people dont have other means to even cook a simple meal or an alternate way of getting potable water unless it comes from the store or tap.
