With a quota to fill this has zero impact on the fishery.

chris, i know i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer...but how can the removal 1,057,783 pounds of prime size breeding stock have zero impact on the fishery? that said i'm all for cutting rec take in half and to try to stop all the recs backdooring striped bass on the black market. we as people seem to have our heads buried in the sand and wallets. i know it sounds like blah, blah, blah, to most of you guys, but many of us older guys haved seen what can happen....and is happening again. oh yeah this time we also have mycobacteriosis to deal with.

The angler didn't establish the quota Don. And comm season doesn't close until the quota is met. With this in mind perhaps there should not even be a limit for 30 fish, why not make it as many as you can get until the quota is filled.

I guess my point is that the disapproval should be with those who establish the quota and not with the angler making a buck while having fun. As was said,if he doesn't catch them somebody else will. Thus the zero impact.

As far as coolers or lack thereof;a couple hours in the sun is just fine for bass. These are not tuna.

your point is well taken chris. i don't have a problem with the anglers themselves- it the regs set by the govt agencies and the agencies themselves that i have a problem with.

X2

If one half the people that claimed to be heavy conservationists made comment on many of the addendum's and legislation that is put in front of us. A lot more would get done.

Regardless it's recreational anglers expect to take fish away from commercial anglers they have to show they're willing to cut back as well.

Nice morning, a few thousand dollars worth of fish there.

The only problem I don't like is the care for the fish, only 2 small coolers that maybe held 7 fish each. If your selling fish it should be treated as if you were going to eat it yourself i.e. after catch put them in the cooler on ice, not sun drying. Need more or bigger coolers.

True enough....if they didn't catch them, someone else would.

I do get a laugh about statements like this :

"Aside form the economics I really enjoy the feeling of providing a high quality, locally caught food for families all along the eastern seaboard. There’s something really “Cape Coddish” there."

What a crock....people do it for the MONEY, and in the case of Stripers some do it for the entertainment.

Half the fish is probably ground up for animal feed, and the other half goes to expensive restaurants and fish markets that cater to those that can afford 15 to 20$ a pound fish.
After it goes through a few hands and everyone makes a buck.

He'd do the same thing if the fish were frozen and sent to China.

It's business, no need to rationalize it.

A legal activity where a guy can make a buck.

The whole argument that it's some kind of public service is laughable.
