In a triangle the 1 inch would be the opposite side and the 4 feet (48 inches) would be the adjacent side so you would use a tangent function (opposite/adjacent). Bill L's 1.193 is corect to 3 places.

BTW , why does the angle have meaning to you?

Getting ready to rip up the deck in my boat because the scuppers & deck are too low. (wet deck)
15 ft span I have 4 inches drop for pitch so water runs to stern.
Going to raise deck and loose a bit of the pitch
Trying to determine how many degrees I have now and how many I want as it sits in the water now.
Want to raise scuppers 5 inches
Tired of a wet deck and having to wear boots everyday !
