Shoot, just wanted to get a winter topic going with a little controversy to get it started. 50 replies in 24 hours is pretty good
As many people posted, in the end the choices are ours as consumers who to buy from and to whom we listen to. Target large or enjoy a sunrise, to each his own.

Man, my truck windows need a thorough cleaning.
I am SURE they need to be cleaned every day. . . it's not safe to be driving around with dirty windows,
I love how many here are lost in yester-year and they dont even know what they have in front of them.....
- Give me pogies or give me eels
- Timing tide / wind
- Bite windows can last 15 minutes, .5hours, an hour, 1/4 tide, half tide, whole tide, multiple tides, slack tides, running tides
- The fish are always with or near the bait, those big bodies of fish, those that many dream of, are with sustainable bait supply
- Always go to the fish, the fish dont come to you.. Just because they were there last year, and the year before, doesnt mean they will be there now.
- Stay AWAY from the Crowds! All my biggest hits were done with not a soul in sight!
- Find your own grounds
- Pay attention to detail, the slightest things make a difference, the way you hook a bait, the weight, freshness, leader material, presentation....
- Stop chasing the reports and following others....Make your own reports - To yourself!
- Every day is a new day, learn something new...
- You cant buy experience on the bookshelves...Many want it easy - every day, they want the fish stacked. i got news for you, Gotta work for it...
This isnt yester-year, stop dreaming of then, this is now.... To many people are stuck in the past and dont change with the times, They Loose..........
John, I hear ya on the kids... I got 2- a 4 year old and a 2 year old and 2 full time jobs, fish smarter and make it count.... Ill sleep when I die...
Now, we can all be like sandman and bitch about how there are no fish...
I am relatively new to the whole surfcasting world; just finished what I would qualify as my second full year where I dedicated time and attention to the sport. Heck 3 years ago while on vacation at block for a week, I was fishing at night w/o waders, corkers, or a even a plug bag for that matter. I am kind of thankful for some of the resources that are available to me; some books, some fishing related forums and my fishing club in particular. Those resources really helped me get started.
At first I fell into the habit of buying tons of plugs I didn't know how to use, in tons of color variations. I also bought some rods and reels i don't use or need, but I hope my nieces and nephew will get use out of them. Through trial and error I think I have kind of figured out what I think works best for me (at the moment) and what I feel confident in using. I hope I have gotten past the point of needing to have XXXXXX lure and YYYYYY accessory; and will try to focus on what works for me and continue to learn from my few successes and many failures in the surf.
DZ, thanks for that SW point information, I finally got to fish it this past year, except I was there on the flood tide. Making a mental note on that one.

Kevin,
My pleasure. I'm sure there was some cut and paste activity with that paragraph. Those are optimum tides.... don't ignore the flood.

If you haven't heard of the Snowstorm Blitz of 1987 - you someday will.
Yup. I can't imagine what they were thinking or how they expect to be taken seriously when it comes to product reviews.
After that, I'm now expecting at least a quarter-page review in 2010 on the Sham-wow and how useful it is when washing your boat.
There's a good size ad for the Banjo Minnow in the latest edition of OTW. Hey, they cater to freshwater fishing too, I guess.
Oh, and there was also a ShamWow booth at the RI Saltwater Sportsman show last spring.
Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio
I don't know why people knock the Banjo Minnow so badly. When I used to fresh water fish back in college, we used them all the time and they truly were amazing. They would out fish any other artificial we would use (rapalas, power bait, etc). Caught tons of large mouth bass on them.......and they have a kick arse tune that goes with them. I love the banjo minnow.
i agree with redlite. they're just as valid as any soft plastic jerk bait out there. the 7" mackeral looks like it would do pretty well in the salt to me.

i'm not sure whats so special about them,,,,but
i was out in the boat on a reservoir in hopkinton and doing ok...
i am always lure hunting when i fish as a habit and noticed a soft plastic minow stuck in a bush....
i powered my way in there to get it just for fun....
it was a Banjo minnow...
i through it on my hook and checked out the action close to the boat just for the hell of it and a small bass slammed it.
so i proceeded to really fish the heck out of it and caught 45 more fish ... so i can highly attest to them working just as good as they say they do... and the only reason i quit catching fish on it was because by then it was shredded .....
