Now I have to go download "ditchdigger" great band that i have not heard in years
Wow, I can't believe someone here knows them. One of the best live bands of their era. Great showmanship and kick ass music. I saw them 8 times and each time was one of the best shows I'd ever seen. It's too bad they broke up, but they are one of the few bands that knew when it was time to hang it up and move on to new projects.
If you like the live clips, they've got some pretty good stuff on youtube.
fav albums noone knows (well, cool people should know these)
Maggot Brain - Funkadelic
Truth and Soul - Fishbone
For some reason, Van Halen 2 and Women and Children First, hardly unknown, are my favorite cds for driving on my way to fish. I can sing every word and blast them as loud as possible and get my blood goin'. They remind me when I was 16 again
Blues Project, the first Poco Album, Super Sessions, Pure Prairie League, Flying Burrito Bros--Sweetheart of the Rodeo
Duuuude - I saw all those bands at the Fillmore East at one point or another -
Blues Project...help me out here will ya, Paul - let's see, Al Kooper...uh...uh...
Damn - can't remember the other guys, gotta be the early onset Old-timers Disease
Maybe it will come to me here....

It was a good thing that Yale University has a radio station or i would have never heard of a lot of bands. Remember Jason and the Scorchers?

"A beach is a place where a man can feel he's the only soul in the world that's real"
I have totally enjoyed this thread. So many artists I never heard of.Very cool stuff. To add my 2 cents, anything by Porcupine Tree.
While I am at it,I would like to ask all who contributed to this great thread if they think it would be a good idea to create a music forum on this site.So much to write about.Anyone agree?
Don't see why not. If you search you will see we have done this kind of thread several times over the years, but mostly in the Scuppers and mostly during the winter time. I am all for it. We could trade, burn stuff for each other. We could have an artist for the week and then get everyones input on it. Everyone would get an opportunity to suggest an artist. God knows everyone here has got an opinion on most anything so I am sure it would not be boring

Some for you guys... my background is mostly jam band-ish but I really listen to everything. I have 100's of hours of Phish and dead legs and can reccommend shows to DL (free and legal) to anyone who asks.
accoustic, laid back, chill singer songwriter stuff
M. Ward- Eerie, great accoustic stuff. Can't go wrong with any of his albums but "Transfiguration of Vincent" and "Transitor Radio" are my two favorites.
Sun Kil Moon- "Ghosts of the Great Highway" really awesome Cd
Some 70's fusion Jazz
Passport- Looking Thru - great upbeat, not too flightly jazz/rock
90's really fun funky Jazz
Karl Denson- Dance lesson #1
Phish related, but not Phish
Trey Anastasio (solo)- Self titled solo album- Rippin guitars, carribean beats, really, really upbeat rockin fun album.
Rock
The New My Morning Jacket album, and most of there other stuff is pretty rockin southern-esque style rock... although the new album is really awesome, it doens't sound much like there other stuff... very diverse...
In the truck usually I play whatever the eels want to hear. They almost always choose something weird by Frank Zappa, but what do you expect? they're freakin' eels in a bucket.
still by the firelight
and purple moonlight
I hear the rusted river's call
I second JOHNNY WINTER CAPTURED LIVE.this is real rock and roll.I'm not sure how obscure it is but the Stephen Stills Mannassas double album is very good.

You8 guys want it - we'll do it. So, y'all want it?
oh the assault on the ears i could recommend
p.s. just because its loud and aggressive doesn't mean it cant be deep and meaningful. which i think gets lost on the next gen. could be on mine too cause i think the current music is awful. but then again i think its because no one has anything worth while to say. probably the most worthwhile thing said in the 2000's has come from greenday and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth, considering through out the 90's they were such a "messing around" type band. but then again this is a post for that forum..
There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process. ~Paul O'Neil, 1965
another band i think some will enjoy and relatively unknown would be the John Butler Trio.good stuff some what of a jam band with some great musicians.
Reverend Horton Heat, if anyone here has seen them live, you know its one of the most under-rated band around......if youre into rockabilly at all.
Also, Legendary Shack Shakers are a kick ass live band, backwoods bluesy trucker stomps, with a singer that plays a mean harp and performs like Iggy Pop's inbred cousin from Kentucky
today was neil young.."after the goldrush".....damn fine album
Oh yeah it is.Slingah, saw him perform Greendale at the Mohegan Sun a few years back. One of the best shows I ever saw,and I've seen plenty. Those I remember anyway...........
Frasier: Niles, I’ve just had the most marvelous idea for a website! People will post their opinions, cheeky bon mots, and insights, and others will reply in kind!
