They have thier purpose. What other vehicle can go into the maneuver box with M1s nd M2s and make it out under their own power?? How many other vehicles can pull a 1 1/2 ton military trailer or get dropped from the sky and survive??
Beyond that the ones I have been in are uncomfortable noisy and drafty, bu tthey do have good radios... Can't see much use outside what they were originally built for....

I will take my old Milk truck over a Hummer anyday of the week. That thing had a least 14 inches of ground clearence more storage that you would ever need and a creeper gear that was good for about 5 mph. Took that truck threw some bigtime snow and drifts never once did even come close to getting stuck. air down the duel wheels in the back and it would go threw the sand very well Im guessing. Thomt

Problem is that you can't buy a real hummer anymore. The original hummers were real hummers, but since GM took them over they are all just pickups dressed to look mean.

Four words.
Quigley GMC Diesel Van
You look down on Hummers
Duramax diesel and 4L85 Tranny, 460 foot lb torque
My new GMC will look similar to this Chevy but without the windows.
And what Don said too

You are guessing right, Thom
A picture of my friend Buddy's old Milk truck, Grumman Van, two wheel drive, air it down, (front and rear), thing went everywhere, I remember him going around two (4X4) buggys that were stuck in the track, pulled out, crossed track, cut a new track by them, then pulled back in... No Problems... was a real neet rig, wish I'd bought it, when he gave it up.

I like them too. The problem is my wife does not want to be seen in one. It is too high profile for our lifestyle. But an awesome vehcile. During the test drive, several people were eyeballing and pointing at us. (I told my wife it was me they were pointing at...they just think I am so good looking ) ...that didn't fly. Also, the ride is kinda course and a little loud, even in the H2 I thought. The H1 is insane. I love the look though. I would get the snorkel accessory and if they made a turret I would get that too The ground clearance is outragous! I think it was over 16"
(You really don't purchase that with mpg in mind)...

Hummers
I remember my first hummer! It had accesories galore. I think just about every possible aftermarket bolt on accesory known to man had been added to the body. The chassis had been tightened. The body had been reworked and it was filled with top grade stuff, no bondo on my hummer. It had those new headlights that blind you when you look at them too long. You know those headlights that your willing to pay almost anything for. The seats had been covered with custom made threads too. No cheap chit from Walmart or a Cabela's catalog hiding the goodies. The rear bumper was very sturdy and had been reinforced so you could hitch almost anything to the back end. Anywhere my hummer went when it was new it stopped traffic. Even now during the winter when the shine gets a little lackluster my hummer is an eyeturner. I also have a YUGO.....
