One of "ours" has fallen...

A fisherman in LI died friday night in the surf. He was a poster on SOL... Be carefull out there.

It was Mr Bill on the SOL board. And he leaves a wife and two children...45 year old school teacher...

I will put up the first donation of some plugs and buy the first tickets if we should do a raffle or donation for his family. I just am not going to run it.

Oh boy. That's a shame. Grim reminder to take an extra minute and familiarize yourself with your surroundings and be safe. My sympathy goes out to his family.

Not sure at this time. From what I gather there are some strong currents where he was fishing PLUS Friday night was the darkest, foggiest night I have fished, EVER. Who knows if he was taken by the sea or possibly had a heart attack or some other freak occurence.
He was an ex-lifegaurd and was an experienced surfcaster. I could EASILY see how someone might have gotten disoriented while wading a sand bar and lost their bearing that night.

Sad to Hear

Thoughts and prayers to his family, especially the ones who lost their dad. I think of my young ones everytime I head out. I think I'll be wearing my inflatable more than I used to.

I hate hearing these stories... but they do serve as a reminder that a good partner is perhaps the most important part of keeping yourself safe. I think of some the falls I have taken, or the times I have climbed out to some real treacherous perches alone.. it's really dangerous. So, Mr Bill, I will, as many of us will, think of you tonight when I teeter out to my rock of choice and do it with a little more caution than the last... T&P....

It's sad whan a family loses a parent, but at least he was doing something he loved. he will be missed, and may well serve as a reminder to the rest of us to still head out to the sea, but do so a bit more cautiously.
I can recall at least one occasion where I was glad to make it back to shore.

Strange story- found him in 3ft of water...very terrible. Doubt we will ever know how it went down, but a good warning, things can go bad in no time at all out on the water
