Eldridge tide book

One of the best tools out there, IMO. Lot of places to get tide/moon info, but this book is one of the first things I purchase each season and never leaves my vehicle. Anyone else a loyal user?

I am a fan. Like Saltheart wrote, the current info is excellent.

There is a place almost across the street from South Station that sells it. It is a weather instrument store.

I reread Capt Eldrigdes description of Vineyard Sound tides and movements every year before we hit the islands.

"Yours for a Fair tide" is one of the greatest closing remarks I ever read.

I think it was about $12 bucks when I picked one up at Goose Hummock last year.

You should be able to find one at any marina or boating supply place.

You need to be registered on their user list to get one. Waiting list is a couple years right now. They ask for your ID when picking one up, regardless of the location. Pretty covert stuff in the books, but worth the wait. I'll copy some pages for you if you're interested.

The book has tides,moon,lots of nautical info, first aid,current velocities and direction, etc. Its a great educational tool and I would highly recommend getting one. The old ones make good bathroom reading too.

Actually, for boat fishing it is not very useful. NOAA used to issue a CURRENT book which was much more helpful.

How does this book compare to the Tidelog that SWE has? I'm looking for a good tide book that shows currents, moon phases, etc. and also has some extra pages/space to use as a fishing log as well. Either of these fit the bill?

Numbskull, I have found my Eldridge to be dead-on with regards to current in the Chatham/Monomoy/Nantucket areas. Love this book, great info every year.

Eldridge's is indispensible when going to fish in a new area....I was up in the chatham area last year and found it to be so helpful in figuring out where and when.

The thing you get other than tide tables are the current vectors showing speed and direction of currents at every hour during the incoming and outgoing tides for a whole bunch of areas. This was once indispebsible info for boat cruising when all we had was a radio direction finder , a peloris and dead reconing calculations useing such current info. The use of that type of info for fishing should be obvious to most.

I agree in that I wish it had a few more charts and graphs for the areas I frequent most, but I found a website that I have playing around with that fits that bill nicely. All in all still a great multi area, multi use resource.

The book will pay for itself the first time you use it. The fuel savings alone of running with the current is great but, it is ideal for looking with the current flow is a min/max at your fishing spot...it is pretty accurate to.
