So how does everyone feel about all of Obamas cabinet appointments?
After one of them Miss Solis finish her speech in spanish I can imagine some people must have started having anxiety attacks. I think he has picked a good cross-section of the electorate. The only thing I am still concerned with is Emanuel.

Pretty good experienced group.
Emanuel and Daschle are questionable in my mind.
Still want to see more about Emauel and the Blog scandel and how Emanuel got Blog's seat after he became Govenor.
Daschle is just too closed minded for my taste.
I think Hillary was a good choice for Sec State..

Seems like Obama's assembled a very experienced and pragmatic team around him, which is good for everyone...
Daschle is a bit of a dope, but I think he's a good pick for HHS. He certainly has the experience and vision to help address healthcare.
Emanuel is getting more attention than he deserves IMHO. Yes, he plays hardball, but I don't think there's a history of foul play like you see with Karl Rove. He does have a track record of being very effective. Looks like it's just being exacerbated by the Blago issue, but there doesn't appear to be any evidence Emanuel was involved in any wrong doing. In fact the evidence seems to pull hard the other way.
Considering the Bush Administration was loaded with idiologs hellbent on pimping their warez and covering their tracks...
It would look like change is certainly coming. Let's hope Obama can pull off a clean tack and get this country on a better course.
It's not going to be easy.

I think his cabinet as been loaded with the same old Libs. I'm shocked that he just noticed how bad the economy is and is renegaging on promises he made just a few short weeks ago. I feel like I'm in the Ground hog day movie. It's sad we fall for the same crap every election. And before you jump all over my ass for being a Obama basher and not giving him his due, look in the mirror and see if you are open minded. Most of us are not and some of us just say they are. We'll see, but I'm not very optimistic

Actually Spence, there is much truth to what buckman says.. that being said, I am optimistic that Obama is going to do more for the people of the United States in 1 or 2 terms than Bush would have done in 30 years...

I think he's assembled a good cabinet. Keeping Gates on was a smart move, no doubt about it. If things turn out well, its on his watch and they turn south, well, thats the other edge of the sword. I approve of Obama's handling of the job.

Things are going to go south on Obama's watch - things are going to continue to worsen for at least through 2009.

I truly think that when it comes to economics, Presidents can make things worse, but have little power to make them better.

It's not a personal attack at all, simply a conclusion based on repeated observations
Care to be a bit more explicit? Obama's named a very moderate and non-partisan cabinet (including a big Republican) and you call them a bunch of Libs. You claim he's already backing away from his platform, yet you don't offer any specifics...
Anything to add?

And so who are the "same old Libs"?
Even republicans are applauding his cabinet for it's moderate and pragmatic stance. Clinton is probably the most liberal of all of them and she's more hawkish on foreign policy than many conservatives. Hell, even #^^^^& Cheney said he liked the selection for his defense team!!!
Sorry, but this just doesn't jibe.

What's sad is that even Nebe has been hoodwinked into the "Liberal" dogma of the right-wing punditry.
People do understand the difference between Liberal, Conservative, Democrat and Republican...right?
Fundamental differences?
Republicans = Strength comes from the individual
Democrats = Strength comes from the village
Liberals = More likely to embrace new ideas for solutions
Conservatives = More likely to look to the past for solutions
The big bull%$%$%$%$? Any rational person is a combination of all of the above.
George W Bush is one of the most radically Liberal US Presidents in history.
There are over 40 Blue Dog Democrats in the US House who believe strongly in fiscal conservatism.
Etc...

my definitions would be more like...
Republicans = teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime
Democrats = give a man a fish to feed his family
Liberals = More likely to blame others for their problems
Conservatives = Accountable for their actions

Republicans = Teach a man to Fish, and when he can catch a thousand fish then put him to work on their boat. Where they will now give him 200 fish and keep 800 for themselves, but when he only catches 900 fish they give him 100 fish and keep 800 fish, and when he only catches 800 fish they tell him sorry can't give you any fish...and keep 800 for themselves.....then they'll show all they're buddy's how to do this.
Democrats = will take the 1000 fish and give you 200....but then come back after they notice that the other guy didn't want to go fishing that day because....Just Because....so he'll come back and say I need to take a 100 of your fish and give it to this guy because he didn't want to fish.
Both still walk away with 800 fish
Liberals = will wonder what new and Exciting Europen recipe they can use to cook the fish, and then they will swear that its better than any thing they ever tasted over here.
Conservatives = Will take their's Southern Fried Please.....with a little ketchup

Conservative: A guy who used to work in finance who lost his job and is now secretly hoping for national health care because there ain't no way he can float COBRA or hope to get another job for the forseeable future.

I was trying to capture the basic "beliefs" while you're mixing in "behaviors".
And I while think everybody believes in accountability, both Liberals and Conservatives are terrible in practice. To say this is a fundamental difference strikes as odd to me.

It must be the end of the world! Nebe and RIJimmy are agreeing and I have to give credit to Spence for posting one of the most accurate thoughts I've read in a long time.
Spence, you got it right about the Republican/Conservative vs. the Democrat/Liberal thing. Too many people label all R's as Conservative and all D's as Liberal.
Not all Republicans are bible thumping rednecks and not all Democrats are Che Guevara t-shirt wearing Marxists.
|
Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio

Rush and Bill said so!
good posts guys.
I like the appointments. The are logical, experienced people. I think they are set to succeed, if they actually do succeed; we'll have to wait and see..
