Spot burning hits the mainstream press

Review of the "best bars in America 2009" ESQUIRE Magazine,
June 2009, page 74,

"Ocean Mist, Matunuck, Rhode Island, you're having a Bloody Mary

Ocean Mist is a beach joint. No oyster bar, no lobster pound,
no T-shirts that will spark conversation on the other side of the
world. The outdoor deck is so close to the sea that an off-shore
breeze can knock the head of your beer and send it swirling into
the Atlantic. They do business all year round, but you want to
go in the summer, sometime before Bill Belichick murmurs his
first regular-season press conference. Claim some real estate
on the deck and look for Block Island or watch surfers line up on
the point break a few clicks to the southeast. Order some suffies
with your next round." Kevin McDonnell

This is strickly for teenie boppers. I cancelled my sub today since
ESQUIRE is not really a man's magazine anymore. Where am I
Wrong????

no mention of the MUSIC???
I've seen Buddy Guy, Black Uhuru, Roomful of Blues.....
I love the Mist, had some great times of my life there. Last year, late afternoon the blues came in and I had my rod, the people on the deck were cheering for all the fisherman as we nailed the blues, it was pretty funny.

and BTW - you should have cancelled your subscruption to Esquire last month when they had the "What it takes to be a Man" article and had Barney Frank as a "man".

I usually just read "the answer fella" in mine because of articles like that.

I hope you didn't miss the Megan Fox pics in the most recent issue. I wouldn't mind doing a little "spot burning" with her.

So few remember....

I thought there would be more comments. Are there
only six of you out there who know the Ocean Mist?

RIJimmy, yes Barney Frank was one of those in the man
article but next after him was Martha Stewart soooo...
you can figure she's there because she's got more
balls than him.

Nebe, great endorsement of Ocean Mist!!!!!~

I lived in Wakefield from 1995-96 and used to go there occasionally. I dated a URI girl who tried to drag me to this show and I didn't go because I didn't know who they were. I wish I listened to her.

Their original drummer, Steve, used to live with my buddies in San Francisco. WE used to hang out and see bands. Funny that I moved across the country and hung out with Rhode Islanders. This does bring back a lot of memories,
Anyone remember Bop Harvey or Bim Skala Bim?
Once I went out back for a quick swim during a show, split my heel open on a rock/shell, went back in and bled all over the bathroom, huge mess. I was feeling no pain. Now, I take my kiddies and have wings. If they only knew the crap their dad did at that place.

I dunno, I've heard stories about some crazy old guy yelling "Va pra casa!" at all the yupsters wearing pink Polo shirts....

Hell yeah! Those guys were great - used to see them at the Mist, then also I barbacked at "The Boat" in Newport, and used to see them there too...matter of fact, if I do recall (and believe me it's tough to recall) - hanging out in the kitchen section back stage at The Boat inbetween sets and sharing some (ahem) "vibes" with the band. Those guys brought the house down every show!

Ya.It really sucks when a national magazine mentions an RI joint.Especially when said economy depends on tourists.
