View Full Version : If the gop win the midterms
Jim in CT 07-31-2022, 12:34 PM I have never seen that. He usually just comments on people from the left's posts.
then what you see, is less than accurate.
He’s disagreed with me many times. And he’s had a valid point every single time he does. so instead of insulting him, pergaps reflect on why he’s saying what he’s saying.
in this case, the gop did not vote against helping vets. they voted against the dems’ attempt to exploit a bill helping vets, by sneaking in a budgetary gimmick. that’s what happened. but not one of you can say it.
if the dems propose a clean bill with no gimmicks and the gop votes against that, then i’ll be the first one to say they voted against vets.

The Dad Fisherman 07-31-2022, 12:42 PM I used to go back and forth with Skip N, Dangles, and occasionally RIJimmy. And then the orange guy won, and the left became completely unhinged and delirious. So yeah, I can find issues with both sides, but one side has just gone completely bonkers.
I was a registered Dem up until the 2020 election, I’m now unenrolled, I would never want to be associated with that awful group of people again….ever.
And before you start with the R’s are no better, notice the word Unenrolled.
To simplify, they both suck

Similar to me I was registered Republican for many years and have voted for probably more Republicans for president than Democrats. But while I agree both parties have moved I think the Republicans have moved far more than the Democrats and don't think I would ever vote for Republican again for president unfortunately. I too am a unaffiliated. I don't think a republican would now ever start the EPA or OSHA for example like Nixon did.

VA Secretary Denis McDonough says Republican Senators’ new proposed changes to the PACT Act would result in rationing care to sick veterans; the VA could only spend so much per year, regardless of need, and would only treat vets for 10 years, again, regardless of need.
The same people helped Trump add 7.8 TRILLION to the debt.

Gas was $1.50 because Covid came and “ …when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”
Then Trump organized an increase in oil prices, crime started increasing on his watch and the Republican administration tried to perform a self coup.
I'm guessing the mother of all migrant caravans will be approaching the border in late October, only to magically disappear a week later, just like all the others.

Since we don't control the air, our good air decided to float over to China's bad air, so when China gets our good air, their bad air got to move," Walker said. "So it moves over to our good air space. Then, now, we got we to clean that back up."

Or
And I want to apologize to the African-American community, because the fatherless home is a major, major problem,' Walker said in a September 2020 interview, adding that he had been 'like a father to some of those kids that had never had fathers,'

wdmso 08-05-2022, 09:39 AM For months now, the Governors of Texas and Arizona have been sending charter buses full of migrants and refugees to Washington D.C.'s Union Station, just a few blocks from the Capitol Building.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he started sending the buses to D.C. because the Biden administration attempted to lift the pandemic-era emergency Title 42 order that allowed the U.S. to deny migrants entry.
yet title 42 hasn't been lifted
According to Gov. Abbott's office, more than 6,100 migrants have been bused to D.C. from Texas alone and he's proud of that and showing his base he's owing the libs
Gov. Abbott's plan to bus migrants to D.C. "political theater". and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey playing along
what's next tattooed numbers ..
So the above is no great surprise seeing Texas already laid out the red carpet for like minded Orban
Gov. Greg Abbott and Hungarian Prime Minister headline first day of conservative conference in Dallas
But Orban has found defenders among prominent American conservatives Tucker Carlson and Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance.
Trump called Orban his “friend” and said he valued his perspective. “Few people know as much about what is going on in the world today,” Trump said.
Matt Schlapp, who leads the American Conservative Union that organizes CPAC, has defended Orban’s invitation in the name of free speech.
The crowd booed when Orban brought up George Soros, what a surprise
He concluded by looking to elections that will be held in both the United States and European Union in 2024.
“These two locations will define the two fronts in the battle being fought for Western civilization,” Orban said. “Today we hold neither of them yet. We need both. You have two years to get ready.”

"Much of the press coverage was similarly straight out of the Biden White House’s hymnal. But a closer look at the numbers suggests why a lot of workers are not feeling so thrilled right now. Comparing the seasonally adjusted numbers for July 2022 with the previous month, we see:
71,000 fewer people working full-time jobs;
384,000 more people working part-time jobs. There was an overall growth of 303,000 more people working part-time who would prefer full-time, driven by a growth of 331,000 more people in full-time jobs being cut back to part-time (what the report refers to as “slack” work);
92,000 more people working multiple jobs;
279,000 fewer people self-employed; and
63,000 fewer people in the civilian labor force, after a decline of 353,000 in June.

Pete F. 08-07-2022, 03:24 PM Senate Republicans have just blocked the $35/month insulin price cap for Americans on private insurance from Democrats' spending bill.
Here’s what happens when folks can’t afford insulin: they try to ration it. When that happens their sugars rise to levels where their cells, starved of glucose, switch to using ketones for intracellular energy. Their blood pH drops, they start breathing faster and faster to maintain a neutral pH. It’s unsustainable, the pH drops to 7.1, 6.9, 6.7… they become unresponsive, they have a seizure. If they’re lucky someone finds them and calls 911. They come to the ED where, because the high glucose is drawing fluid into the blood, they have peed out gallons of fluid. We slam them with fluids, bicarbonate, insulin once we know their potassium levels. They go to the ICU where care costs 10,000 dollars a day. They stay for days, weeks sometimes. Even, if you’re heartless enough to ignore the human cost, the “cost cost” of What we’re doing to diabetics is insane and stupid. It makes no sense. It’s inefficient. It costs more to fix DKA then it does to prevent them DKA. Way more.

"WE" aren't doing anything to diabetics....most are doing it to themselves
diabetics are also most likely suffering from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney disease, neuropathy etc....etc.......are we discounting all of those treatments and medications for them? And I though Obamacare fixed all of this? Insulin is just the political pandering flavor of the month....like forgiving student loans
and if you think a significant number of diabetics, as the result of having their insulin discounted by the federal government are suddenly going to turn to healthy groceries, exercise and weight loss...you are truly delusional
there is another option....
One of the first steps in getting off insulin is to exercise and adjust your diet to help you lose weight. Fasting from food for a portion of the day may help, as well as changing lifestyle habits such as quitting smoking.
Those with type 2 diabetes can often manage their condition with diet and exercise or with diabetes medications. Some others with this type of diabetes require insulin to control blood sugar levels.
A person with type 2 may start out on a once-daily pill that will control their blood sugar levels. However, if nothing changes with their lifestyle, they may need an adjustment to their dosage of medication or may be placed on insulin to replace their current treatment plan.

Put together, these five major companies made $55 billion this past quarter, as hundreds of millions of people around the world bore the brunt of surging prices at the pump.

Fact: It is true that excess weight increases your chance of having diabetes. However, many people who are overweight or obese never develop diabetes.
Diabetes Is Not Your Fault
Don’t blame yourself for developing type 2 diabetes, and don’t let anyone else blame you either. It is not caused by laziness or a lack of will power. Eating sweets didn’t do it. Type 2 diabetes is a genetic disease.

The deal comes as President Donald Trump returns to the issue of drug prices, trying to woo older people whose votes are critical to his reelection prospects.
Trump Medicare recipients who pick a drug plan offering the new insulin benefit would pay a maximum of $35 a month starting next year, a savings estimated at $446 annually. Fluctuating cost-sharing amounts that are common now would be replaced by a manageable sum.
Same plan 35.00. But for private insurance and republicans shoot it down. As if the above never happened

We could simply stop subsidizing it
Outside of North America it's actually not in that many foods, because they don't have the massive import taxes on sugar and massive subsidies of corn production that make it cheaper to use HFCS in food production.

Yes, by giving people what they actually want, instead of telling people that you know better than they do, what's good for them...
"the talking point of a major political party claiming to be for law and order, is to attempt to destroy the FBI"
Ignoring the Trump raid (which may have been a totally valid raid, or it may have been a political hit job, neither one of us knows yet), the FBI is doing this to themselves. They lied to go after Carter Page, they lied to cover up the Hunter Biden "investigation" (if that's the right word), they're using heavily armed SWAT teams to arrest conservative senior citizens in the middle of the night, AFTER tipping off CNN to get it on TV...this isn't what the FBI is supposed to be...
"lost them the White House and Senate"
Yet you'd NEVER claim that Obama/Hilary "lost" the senate and house to the GOP in 2016. Why is that? The GOP is in far better shape right now than the democrats were after 2016, yet you say today the GOP is dead but you'd never claim the democrats were dead after 2016. Why such a obvious double standard?

Funny, isn't that the entire pro-abortion position, in one poorly constructed sentence?
"Society can go to hell. "
If the conservative view of freedom is "hell-ish", please explain why so many people and businesses are moving to red states? They're all masochists?
"your simplifying examples . of course only liberals do those things"
You're lying again. I never said "only liberals" do those things. I concede conservatives can be greedy and dishonest and hypocritical, I've said that 1,000 times. I listed those examples because you are the absolutist who will never admit democrats do those things.
"Like I said denial "
How am I in denial, when I admit that conservatives are guilty of every sin known to man? The one denying facts is you, when you deny that liberals are similarly flawed. I provided irrefutable examples of their hypocrisy. But you, the one in denial, will never admit it.
Make that wrong. Go ahead and admit that liberals, being human,. are flawed as well. You'll never admit it, you can't. Because you don't merely believe in liberalism, you are a slave to it.
Why not set aside the "conservatives are evil, liberals are noble" bullsh8t and talk honestly about policies, results, and what Americans actually want?
Pete F. 08-10-2022, 03:30 PM "so the cult has figured out how to win friends and influence people"

The poor victim never misses a right wing trope and as a Trump supporter obviously has no standards.
The Cult’s reaction to the search of Trump’s hotel reflects the belief that certain categories of people are subject to the law and it’s enforcement and abuses and others, like Trump, exempt from it entirely.
This is also why cult members argue that executing a warrant on a Republican is tyranny, but shooting unarmed civilians, abusing suspects in police custody, or brutalizing left wing protesters are all virtuous actions that should be rewarded.
As someone else said
“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Well, when they refuse to investigate, isn't it kind of hard to prove anything? Carter Page was never charged with anything, that didn't stop the same FBI from lying to a FISA court to get a warrant to spy on him. But Hunter is untouchable. For now.

Yet in the Gallup poll taken in the summer of 2020 (during the height of the pandemic), a record number of Americans said they were better off after 4 years of Trump. According to Gallup - Trumps 56% who said they were better off was "easily the highest Gallup has recorded among comparable points in previous incumbents' presidencies."
Lemme guess - Obama's policies were the reasons why so many said they were better off in 2020 than in 2016.

When Republicans have power, they ban abortion, cut billionaires’ taxes and attack LGBT Americans. When Democrats have power, they add jobs, fund veteran care, bring manufacturing home, protect the climate and defend reproductive rights.

PaulS 08-16-2022, 11:21 AM no...there is nothing in the legislation that will reduce inflation...that's has become widely evident...but it's a great name for the legislation:huh:
The bill will make small steps to help bring inflation back to normal levels, said Shai Akabas, the director of economic policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center.
"It will generally work in the right direction and help the Federal Reserve, which has the primary responsibility for getting a hold of inflation," Akabas said.
ECONOMY
What's causing inflation
There are three main ways the bill targets rising prices, according to Akabas. First, it plans to reduce the federal deficit, which is the difference between how much the U.S. government spends and how much it makes in taxes and revenue. When there's less money floating in the economy, there tends to be less demand and fewer price hikes, Akabas said.
Because there are several provisions to encourage spending in the bill, the net impact on inflation is unclear.
Second, it will promote the production of certain goods, mainly in renewable energy. Having more supply than demand could help lower some costs over time, he added.
Third and more directly, one provision of the bill will help limit the price growth of certain prescription drugs by allowing Medicare to negotiate their cost with pharmaceutical companies. Still, some of the biggest drivers of inflation, including food and energy costs, are not immediately addressed.
PaulS 08-16-2022, 11:36 AM that's an opinion...good job

Let’s just call your opinion out for what it is, democrats just don’t legislate the way your party likes, it’s to much for the average American and for their and their children s good down. You really are reaching now, just because we feel globally everyone needs to take global warming serious, doesn’t mean we just sell everything we use and attempt to get the same performance out of an electric equivalent. If you knew anything about chainsaw carving, since I’m sure that on caps was directed at me, you would understand the serious drawback of electric saws. I sold my center console and peddle a kayak, do I get points for that? I’d love a good steak, but years back we gave up red meat, but that’s making me want a nice bone in rib-eye. Change is cumulative if everyone and countries need to take steps to cut back year by year, but snarky man thinks we can just swing over everything.

they are the most entitled, most needy, most whiny group of people
you will ever come across. Which is too bad, because it’s such an important profession.
The union is a major obstacle
to improving education. And it’s a career that draws too many people
who are only enticed by summers off, amazing benefits, and unheard of job security. good teachers fee a calling to help kids, not a desire for summers off.
there are places where teachers are truly underpaid. CT ain’t one of them. You can’t drive 5 miles on the highway in CT without passing a billboard that says “we love teachers.”. what an unbelievable waste of money.

wdmso 08-20-2022, 08:59 AM Republican want to privatize education because:
It
Education is a multibillion dollar market, and the private sector is eager to get its hands on those dollars.
Conservatives are devoted to the free market and believe that private is inherently superior to public.
Shrinking public education furthers the Republican Party goal of drastically reducing the public sector.
Privatization undermines teacher unions, a key base of support for the Democratic Party.
Privatization rhetoric can be used to woo African American and Latino voters to the Republican Party.
Non of the above is about improving education
Yep sounds about right. . Seeing Jim touting school choice a win for black family’s
In Indiana A majority of voucher students have not previously attended an Indiana public school.
Pence in 2013, has led to a shift in student demographics as well. White voucher students are up from 46 percent that first year to 60 percent today, and the share of black students has dropped from 24 percent to 12 percent. Recipients are also increasingly suburban and middle class. A third of students do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Whites increased from 40 to 60% and blacks declined 24 to 12%.
For a full voucher, worth 90 percent of what a state would spend in a public school, a family of four can earn no more than $45,000 annually, but students whose parents earn up to $67,000 can still qualify for a half-voucher. And for children already in the program, their family income can rise to nearly $90,000 annually.
Yep that’s low income

public schools in my town spend $19k per kid, and results are average.
catholic middle school in my town spends $5,500 per kid, smaller classes, superior results. teachers can go above and beyond for the students, because there no union telling them not to.
when i taught public school, one time there was an issue with fights in the hallway between classes. The principal asked teachers to stick their heads into the hallway to make sure there were no fights. just for the 5 minutes between periods.
The union got wind, sent us letters forbidding teachers from doing it unless the school
paid us more, because the 5 minutes between periods was a break time for us
Student safety was supposed to take a back seat. would never, ever happen in a catholic school. For nowhere near the same price
what other group needs billboards every 5 miles telling them how great they all are?

Only in Jim’s world these aren’t really REAL Americans. How could they be. It’s clear their against the constitution. Because they clearly see the electoral college has seen it’s time in the sun and with population growth and decades of Republicans gerrymandering it needs to get tweaked or just go into the trash bin of outdated ideas
But we know the only reason Republicans like the electoral college is it’s the only way they can win an election. It’s has nothing to do with love of the constitution

then follow the prescribed steps to
amend the constitution, or live with it.
it’s not the only way republicans can win. but republicans have ( in the past few elections) done a better job of figuring out how to campaign effectively to reflect the realities of the electoral college. Hilary spent all
her time in NY and CA and ignored the midwest. Whose fault is that? If she’s too stupid to grasp what the electoral college does, she’s probably not smart enough to be potus
The GOP campaigns the way it does specifically because of electoral realities. democrats haven’t responded as well to electoral realities because elites don’t like the unwashed losers in flyover country.
all democrats have to do, to do better with the electoral college, is spend time in the middle of the country and make their case to those people. When all you do is hang with the swells on both coasts, you run the risk of losing because of electoral math.

Pete F. 08-21-2022, 01:21 PM the electoral college is in the constitution. i’d be very very interested to hear your explanation of why it’s un- american to support that which is in the constitution.
if you feel the need to expose yourself to young girls
who aren’t asking for a peek, that’s your issue Pete.
when did McConnell change the number of justices on the supreme court? i must have missed that.

Counting some people as 3/5ths of a person is in the original Constitution, are we now not allowed to amend the Constitution, or do you think Democrats have magical powers?
You don’t need to project your sick fantasies on me or anyone else. Every single human being goes to the bathroom, if you find it sexually exciting that’s on you.
McConnell played plenty of games within the rules and outside the conventional boundaries.
We have currently have two parties.
One is anti-democracy, anti-truth, and anti-rule of law.
The other is sometimes inept and foolish, with some fringe illiberal elements--but basically committed to the institutions and norms of liberal democracy and a free society.
It's not a tough choice.

amend the constitution, or live with it.
Seems Republicans should take your advice. And stop trying to steal elections via gerrymandering restrictions on voting voting in election deniers and actually trying to steal the last election.
Ps Congress may submit a proposed constitutional amendment to the states, if the proposed amendment language is approved by a two-thirds vote of both houses.
But we all ready know why republicans will all vote no

wdmso 08-21-2022, 04:43 PM Just saw an interview with chad wolf couldn’t admit Biden won the election fair and square
Then went on to say Americans don’t trust the election system.
No kidding thats whathappens when you and the POTUS lie 24x7 about election fraud So Republicans think the election was stolen
And Dem don’t Trust republicans as honest stewards of our national elections . Seeing their leader just actually tried to steal the election . And refuse to admit that’s what happened
He refused
To admit fraud played no part in Biden’s win

81,282,916 votes for the worst candidate in American presidential history....yeah, probably nothing to see there :rotf2:
maybe we should waterboard him until he admits what you want him to admit....I'm sure we could justify it under "threat to democracy" :)

trump is a dreadful
human being without question.
his policies? he broke the record in the pill gallup does every 4 years during presidential elections, where they ask americans if they feel better off after 4 years of the incumbent. In the summer of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, more
americans said they were better off after 4 years of trump, than for
any other president in the history of the poll.
America hated trump. But they liked his policies. This is why the left hates and is terrified of Desantis. The upside of trump without the downside ( very few have trumps downside).

if you think about it, it actually worked out pretty good,....if trump had won, democrats would still be burning down cities and destroying innocent people's lives in their anger....with dark brandon pulling out the most remarkable victory of all time...we just got a couple hours of mayhem at the Capitol

You are right. That poll stated that, but the same time, Gallup had his approval rating at 44%.
Trump rode in on a wave of good stock market trends (which continued), good unemployment trends (which continued) and a host of other economic indicators. I think most Americans would say they were better off economically, but most also (correctly) probably didn't attribute to Trump.

how long had liberals been asking for criminal justice reform? and why didn’t obama deliver it when the democrats controlled both the house and the senate?
It took Trump to do it. That was one policy i personally hated ( i don’t think high level drug dealers are ever non violent criminals), but he even delivered for the left. not that you could ever admit it.
he knew how to deliver. He’s just hard wired to be a vindictive, lying, narcissistic baby.

Pete, MSNBC,CNN,ABC,CBS,NBC,NPR,NYTIMES,WASHPO..etc...et c........
dedicated 24 hours a day/7days a week for I guess six plus years now telling America how and why to hate trump(some true, much untrue)......probably not reflected in any of the polls.....:laugha:

ok. so trump didnt do anything different with the economy , he just sat back and rode the obama wave? THATS what you’re saying?
He didn’t cut personal taxes, annihilate corporate income taxes, eliminate what he thought were wasteful regulations, he didn’t fund economic opportunity zones in struggling urban areas, he didn’t incentivize companies to bring back massive sums of cash that were overseas? he didn’tdo any of that?
Et tu Bryan? Et tu? I thought you were the one single lefty here who was pretty honest, even about things that didn’t specifically serve your agenda.
Some scientist you are.
Here’s what happened. Trump obviously inherited a roaring economy. Then he did the things he did, which had the effect of pouring gasoline on the economic fire. Whether you happen to like it or not, that’s what happened. He did things very differently from obama, and it worked until we voluntarily chose to shut the economy down.

this is accurate....and now Biden is doing all these great things that actually flowed from obama, somehow survived trump..... and now Americans are happier than ever again...lalalala....if we can just prevent the fascists from destroying our democracy:lasso:
PaulS 08-22-2022, 07:43 AM He’s a pathological liar, according to Republican Ted Cruz.
He’s a fake, a fraud, and a con-man, according to Republican Mitt Romney.
He convinced 81 percent of white evangelical Christian voters to throw Jesus under the bus to vote for a man who bragged about grabbing women “by the pussy.”
He fired the acting Attorney General in a Monday Night Massacre because she determined that the president’s executive order on immigration was constitutionally indefensible.
He’s created an environment in which a southern white man can shut down a northeastern white woman while she’s reading from the floor of the Senate the cautionary words of a heroic southern black woman about a southern white man, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, who was deemed too racist to be a federal judge in 1986.
He disrespects duly-appointed, Senate-confirmed federal magistrates: “so-called judges.”
He’s offended our friends and allies, treating the Mexican and Australian governments in much the same way he’s treated John McCain and Megyn Kelly and a disabled reporter and Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz and the Gold Star Khan Family and Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio and Rosie O’Donnell.
He hasn’t, as far as we know, paid federal income taxes in years, bragging that it’s smart on his part — meaning it’s dumb on our part to do so, thereby undermining citizen investment in shared governance. Nor has he released federal tax returns, as other presidential candidates have for the last 40 years.
His wife in New York City, his weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago, and his gallivanting children are costing us a fortune.
He’s sloppy with national security. Proof: Michael Flynn.
He’s given us a Secretary of Education who was born into and married into a billionaire family, has never attended a public school or taught in a public school, never taken out a student loan or applied for a Pell Grant, or even much supported our public schools.
He nominated a labor secretary (now withdrawn) who took advantage of an undocumented worker, pays his fast-food employees a #^&#^&#^&#^&ty wage, and wants to replace humans with robots because they don’t take vacation days.
He’s put together an administration of the wealthy, by the wealthy, and for the wealthy.
He’s not kept his campaign promise to release documents and even hold a press conference to prove that the third Mrs. Trump never worked in the US illegally. (We know she lied about having a college degree and — knowingly or not — plagiarized part of Michelle Obama’s DNC speech.)
He said he’d negotiate lower drug prices from pharmaceutical companies. Now he says he won’t — but will give big pharma tax breaks and lift certain regulations on their industry.
He turned the nomination of a Supreme Court justice into the finale of a prime-time reality-show.
He knows little about the history of the United States, about our constitutional system, or about our institutions of government.
He has left millions of Americans who acquired health insurance via the ACA worried sick that this great benefit will be stripped from them.
His closest advisers have added to the chaos of the first weeks of the new administration: Kellyanne Conway and her universe of “alternative facts” — like the Bowling Green Massacre; Steve Bannon, who wants to play war with our military; Stephen Miller, who yells at the American people that the president’s views “will not be questioned!”; and Sean Spicer, period.
He uses Twitter to harangue and berate and demean individuals and journalists and companies that question his infallibility.
He’s rattled and incoherent, unfit and unqualified and unstable.
He uses fear and anxiety to bring out the worst impulses that lurk just beneath the surface to pimp for votes and deepen the crevasse between his America and the rest of us.
He has not drained the swamp, as he promised. It’s deeper. It’s wider. It’s even more dangerous.
The Russians. The Russians. The Russians.
Conservative Republicans would have crucified our former philosopher-president, Barack Obama, for behavior that even resembled that of our schoolyard bully president, Donald Trump. Where is their outrage now? President Turmp is not making America great again. He’s making America ugly again. But Republicans, who created this president in their laboratory of anger and resentment, will use President Trump as long as he’ll sign his John Hancock to their legislation.
