It looks like sour grapes due to the possibility Myerson's alleged 68 or 69 pounder may knock off the 67# fish caught from CH's boat for striper of the year or other bragging rights..can't be a coincidence this post was started...I can't think of any other reason unless these guys simply dislike each other...
Face it, there's probably more super sized fish being recorded this year than at any time since the late 70's-early 80's.
There's been double digit numbers of 60# plus fish taken that I know of, and perhaps many more off the radar. What this means is there's(obviously) a large availability of real big fish, which means many people will be landing and recording them(in addition to CH).
This(big fish glut) doesn't lessen anyone's accomplishments or necessitate cheap shots via internet postings....you still have to get out there and put the effort in...there's obviously many people able and willing to do it.

This falls into the same situation as high altitude mountain climbers. When someone summits a mountain never summited before and no one witnesses it, they are very supportive of the person and trust they actually did the climb on an honors system. We must do that too as if we suspected everyone of cheating it would ruin us as a group.
Problem is, in high altitude climbing (fishing too), there are cases when you have multiple pieces of evidence pointing that the person didnt make the climb. You can accuse the person, but its a wash because you cant prove it one way or the other. Over time though, if that same name constantly comes up, maybe there is something up with that person.
Like I posted last year, the lie detectors, gutting, weigh stations that actually pay attention and know what theyre looking at all would help this from happening. Even with all that you can still get away with it. People put a lot of effort into cheating when there is money on the line. Even with a charity tourney some will still cheat to give themselves the hero status.

Meh... caught from a boat, probably with a piece of chunk. Fish doesn't count in my book.

This is the same behavior I witnessed countless times at the cape while growing up in the striper surf, thus its no surprise to see it now...
A lot of competitive guys participate in this fishery and due to their competitive spirit they don't like to get beat whether its for one day, one week, one month, or one season, plain and simple...
The insults, grievances, threats, and allegations of wrong doing are nothing new...if you think this silly tounament is bad you should have seen it when guys were making a(real) living selling fish...this is nothing...
I do agree with CH's assertion that there's something fishy going on, but I'm not sure he's got the right person in his gun sights. I believe there's countless cheats in the OTW tourney as some of the prizes are simply too tempting for some to pass up..plus its easy to get away with given the number of weigh stations coastwide and the fact none of them inspect the fish for tampering.

For sure, if I were so accomplished and lucky to have had a season like this fisherman is having, and I was in a tournament to win, you all would see quality pics of each big girl over 50. Maybe he's not as vain as me. Art

Well, honestly, I had not given his success much "doubting" thought. A few threads bac I gave him a big "thata boy"! 53, then 55, then 60, then 62 ( no signs of a larger fish on the otw site yet ). I figured a mix of skill, luck, determination, and of course, big fish. All be it, in hindsight, the 55 in the pic looks a bit...."dead" shall I say. So Columbo would ask: So, how are the other sharpies doing in Clinton? Is he even fishing that area? Are there any tourneys in the area with that class of fish being weighed in by the victors?
In my small piece of bassland, it's very hard to keep a secret. Be it a hot spot, time, tide, bait, etc. He would seem to be an excellent secret keeper. Art

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

I have never seen or heard of three sixites by one person in one month in my lifetime but know some surfmen who got two in one season. Right now this is the biggest number of sixties I have ever seen reported since the early eighties thus I don't question these fish.

Off topic, but these teams of "super sharpies" will put and end to this contest. The above average fisherman or team do not stand a chance. Add that to a sour economy, concerns on the bass population, and the BS, I think people won't bother.

I've met two people who have both won small tournaments by "picking up" their fish from someone else that was fishing that day. Heard second-hand stories about many more people doing the same.
It's a shame because now stories like this are a immediately questioned by me. He could be the luckiest guy in the world, the best fisherman in the world or a cheat.
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

If there's a full blown mutiny next year on the SS Cowhunter you're welcome to join us on Team S-B for the shore division.
Did I hear you once swam the canapitsit channel? If this is true I have a new found admiration for you...even if you're a boat guy from Jersey.

now we're on to something here!
Do you think some of these guys hearts are going to be broken if they don't win angler of the year? Its just business as usual. I bet the majority don't even know theres prizes for monthly winnings! They just want the $$$$$$$ and truck (if there is even a truck to win this year).

I'd be really carefull about calling people cheaters. Pictures are useless to determine size unless the csale beams or guage are shown. If the fish is held out it looks big but if the head is closer to the camera than the tail it can look really small. I have seen pictures of cars with the engine off rolling up hill based on the pictures.
You can argue about what size it looks to you but don't call people cheats unless you can prove it. It sounds to me like people not only doubt the fisherman but doubt the integrity of the weigh station , etc. To me its serious business to call a guy a cheat.

What motivates people to make a fishing contest into serious business?
Is it something worth supporting and admiring?

This thread is some what comical,
And I find it really hard to believe someone could catch 3 60 pound class fish in one month
I'm not saying he's cheating I just don't believe it

Agreed Mike.
Doesn't this remind you more and more of the crash of the early 80s. Lot's of big fish being killed and no little fish around at all. YOY in the dumper. Can you hear the footsteps???

This has nothing to do with the striper cup, just another surf vs boat comment...
It is my personal view, in terms of locating, tactics, skill set required, etc that boat fish are -15 pounds... meaning that a surf caught 25# would be much more rewarding personally than a boat 40# and I would rather catch a surf 35# than a boat 50#. Personally feels so much more rewarding and fulfilling... That's my personal opinion of how I feel when I catch fish... if I get a 45 on a boat, I honestly dont care if I dont get a photo of it, sitting high and dry with jeans and a drink. not taking anything away from anyone... just how I feel when I make a catch... I know whats what, and the manner in which a fish was caught definitely effects my level of personal accomplishment.
*Nice job on the catch by the way... if you feel personally fulfilled, who cares what anyone thinks.
