the gsb1201m is probably one of the most versatile blanks i build on. i've built it as a spinner and caster. you can plug and eel with it and it handles a wide range of lure weight, with 1-4 being the optimum, 1.4-3.5 about perfect.

however, if you are going to be consistantly throwing up to 5 ounces with it, you may want to look at the sb1213m, xra1261mh, rainshadow sw1209 or su1209/1208. you'll want a rod that can handle the high end better than just lobbing it at the high end.

I have both the 1201l and 1201m. The 1201l is my favorite eel rod especially if you cannot get large eels. It handles large eels too. You will cast more eels off with the 1201m if you are not careful.
