I don't understand people stealing fishing equipment. To me, fishing equipment has a lot of personal attachment to its owner...a lot of memories were made with that gear. Sometimes I look at a reel and it recalls a trip and a story.
This fall I found a sweet flyrod and reel in the sand. The setup was well over $1000. I once looked at purchasing the exact reel (Tibor) but could not justify the expense because of the frequency that I fly fish. (I am a now and then fly guy) Now I found it on the beach with no one in sight. I took it home, rinsed it off and called a friend at the newspaper to place an ad. It turns out he already knew who lost it and I was able to return it to the angler. To me I got more satisfaction out of returning the rod and reel then I would have from keeping it. I would feel like %$%$%$%$ every time I ever used it.... I know that rod meant a lot to its owner.
Stealing fishing gear is worse then stealing money IMO. You take away a piece of someones sole. I know anyone who steals fishing gear will burn in hell forever.
