But the thing I liked playing with most was the little girl who lived diagonally across the street. She was so cute with her little white knee highs and pig tails.

I had a stick, too, Prof. Huge upgrade from the rock. My folks spared no expense.
Now the funniest thing in my minds eye is Bigfish wearing out 2 Big Wheels. Just cracked me up. All I could imagine was a huge, grown man on one of those. Maybe it's just me.....
He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.

sawdust pile, hay loft, barbie played in the mud and the stream in the back of the field, my dads handcart made for an interesting ride, Spirograph, playdough, sand and seaweed at the beach, sawhorses made good pretend real horses, hmmm........memories
By the way it sounds like some of you were seriously spoiled!
Raven-I did a lot of growing up on my grandfathers farm. When the work was done and it was time to play you had to be pretty "inventive" when it came to toys. In fact anything and everything had potential of becoming a toy if you thought hard enough about it!
Maybe later I will enlighten you on my 101 things you can create with used bailing twine! (we werent allowed to "waste" the new twine but used twine was fair game)
My wife found that game in her mom's basement and brought it home for our 3 1/2 year old son. He loves it. Of course, he makes me set it up and then he just wants to set off the chain of events that puts the "rude mouses in jail". He gets so excited watching the whole thing.
Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio
Broom sticks and old tennis balls we would find around the courts to play stickball, Dad's basketball, card games w/ std deck of cards, chess, Tinkertoys and Lego.
Must be why I am good at building things with whatever is available.
My buddy's family was wealthy and he had the slot cars and cool stuff like that.
My uncles had some trains, but we never had enough room to do a good layout. I still have my old 'N' gauge engine, cars & some track - whole layout fit on sheet of plywood that was 2' x 4' - sitting in my Dad's old Cardinal 7X box in the cellar. Hey any of you guys remember Eric Fuchs that use to be in Government Center in Boston? Lots of great stuff - dunno whatever became of them. Use to have another place called Hobbytown close to combat zone - that places had coolest models (plastic and balsa) and lots of RC stuff.
TV - tubes in the back - letting off a ton of heat w/ that distinct glow.
Didn't have to worry near as much about being molested, kidknapped or murdered like now a days.
All this technology for what? Life was simpler and better back then IMHO.
i used to sail that thing everywhere in Buzzards BAY
i'd love to have the "Hobie Adventure Island" as a go out and sail & fish - fun craft.... as i miss those days.
But it's a huge investment ! not to mention the length
is 16 feet...long... i like the retractable pontoons the best... it would be great to have netting across them
and be able to slide a big ole Bass up there....
sand lot baseball, street hockey, pond hockey, basketball and foot ball took up nearly most of my time. Just don't see any sandlot baseball anymore. We had a pissa place and met there everyday for several hours of non adult supervised fun.

On the back of the old black and white Polaroid my dad wrote:
"Christmas Eve - 1959
Just finished setting this up for Chuck - will he be surprised!"
I sure was.
Thanks, Pop, thanks Ma - it was really neat!
"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
i remember the day i decided to do the longest skid mark (leavin Rubber) via a bicycle in History....
with my brother's bike of course...
I sat at the top of the hill contemplating where i should
apply the brakes to keep from Crashing into the wooden fence.... at the bottom of the col de sac ...
And i was off.... 20, 30 , 40 mph, pedaling down hill like i was on fire
rushing to the nearest body of water....
then i decide to apply the brakes thinkin.... this
will be good for a 40' skid....
well it was a real BAD idea because i mis judged
how many feet i needed to stop at that speed before
i'd wipe out...
as i neared the curb skidding in a perfect straight line leaving the coolest skid mark in the world
...i crashed that front tire so hard into the tar curb that i not only dented the rim so it was un ridable
but my head snapped downwards on Impact...
So FAST that
i smashed my forehead into the center of the handlebars with a big ole KAwack !!! that made me see stars and tweety birds... for awhile
after walking the bike home in a concussion stuper...
i looked in the mirror at my forehead... in Ultimate HORROR to see this HUGE freekin egg of a bump there...
i looked more like a UNICORN... it was so NASTY lol
Toy M16 Replicas.
We used to play "Vietnam"
We'd set up ambushes in the woods, take turns playing the VC, set up booby traps, do mock tortures of prisoners.......
Good times.
we used to do this thing called "Survival Tests" we'd pick one kid to be the leader and he would come up w/ all these "feats of skill" (translated: Stupid Things to Do)...jump off this wall, climb this fence, crawl through these thornbushes.....if i showed you one of the rock Cliffs we used to use a garden hose to repel down.......you'd have me committed...man it was fun though

When I was a kid I had a nice cannon. it was a modern artilery design about 8 inches long. It had a spring loaded breech that took a "bullet" about 1 inch long and 1/4 diameter. we used to set up these dinasour figures I had and shoot them over using the spring loaded canon.
It was great fun and I bet i would enjoy shooting at them dinasours even today as a 55 year old kid!
