exactly! just get off your arse an burn some calories. You have to be consistent and keep it up. I tell so many people how I lost weight and they all say.."yeah, Im joining the gym and blah blah ..." Spending money makes people feel like they're doing something, I want to tell them up front that they will FAIL. The gym is for people to bodybuild and sculpt, not lose weight, its not convenient and no fun going in the winter. You'll procrastinate and eventually quit. Why go to the gym? Walk stairs, get off your butt at work and walk a flight of stairs 4-5 times in a row, twice a day. I go outside to the parking garage. Inside when its too hot or cold. Walk around your neighborhood, just 20 MINUTES until you can walk at a brisk pace and then walk more. Try to get to 40 minutes tops. by some cheap dumbells and do some arm exercises while you watch tv, stand up. The key is consistency, you MUST do it 4-5 times a week.

Time to come clean, Jimmy. Rumor has it that you got into shape not by running, but by doing Jazzercise.

Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio

What a republican way of thinking my way is the only right way.

For me the gym is much better, as it puts me in an environment where I know I only have one task. If I'm home I can find 100 projects to do instead of getting on the elliptical. But it doesn't work for Jimmy so it is wrong, I'm just spending money to feel better

Going for a 2-mile run is one thing, get on a bike for a 60min high intensity spinning class in the middle of December knowing it is on the schedule makes it harder to bail, at least for me. The gym is a hell of a lot more fun for me in the middle of February, rather than working out. Plus there is more eye candy in the winter especially in a college town!

so, how much weight have you lost? I dropped 50 and spent zero (ok I bought new running shoes)the effort for most people just commuting to the gym 5 times a week is more time than I spend exercising and thats a fact. 5 minutes for me to dress, grab ipod, 30 minutes to run, home/shower - 5 minutes. done. Thats all I did to lose the weight. no machines, no waits, no crowds, no $ and most importantly - no excuses.
As a typical democrat, you need to spend money needlessly and require others to help you achive your goals.

“50 percent of all new health club members quit within the first six
months of signing up, according to the International Health, Racquet &
Sportsclub Association.”

1 in 5 club members use their club at least twice per week.
40% of those who join health clubs stop going soon afterwards.

In the article Time Management Facts and Figures by Dr. Donald E.
Wetmore, it says that 90% of those who join health and fitness clubs
will stop going within the first 90 days.
