Probably twice as many people counting those damn birds than counting the entire SB population.

And how can they say that crows are the primary predator? Fox,Mink?

Lets see can we count the ways....Fox - Skunk - Coyote - Raccoon - Mink-- Osprey - Eagle - Owls - Falcon - Crow - Rat - Snake - Children - Rangers - Storms - Tides ETC...... and the powers that are protecting the plovers are targeting CROWS! Gee I wonder if they know the difference between a Raven and a Crow??

Seems to me that the presence of humans on the beach will help deter all the above from hanging around in our presence.

GF, a couple of years back they trapped out all of the fox and skunks up top. At one point the skunks were thicker than gulls there - when you walked up to your truck at night you approached it with trepidation. If it was a new moon I usually circled around mine with my necklight on checking under it and especially in the tracks. More than one guy I know got a spraydown.

Haven't seen a one out there since, a good 6-7 years.

Who are they to say that a crow's life is any less valuable than a plovers life.

All life is precious and none can be replaced..... is what i told an Elderly woman who questioned me on why i would go out of my way to save the life of an English Sparrow. She said... it's just a sparrow !

If i hear that they go ahead with the poison nests i'd be tempted to go down there and remove it all because that is just not the right approach.

Unless they had installed game camera's to prove whats happening to the eggs they cannot just RANDOMLY select a "possible predator" and "order it" to be killed by poisoning it. that's totally illogical.

same thing was done at Monomoy and parts of Nauset...
I had a talk with the guy they hired to do the trapping..he was so pissed at the audubon people that they sent to help him.. he was going to relocate the skunks to central mass where he is from...but they insisted on drowning them in the burlap bags (he said they won't spray if they are bagged, when trapped, and they can still breathe OK in there) he had them stowed in..he got so pissed he quit, he said they took a little too much glee in doing it too.
I remember the seagull thing, that did not work out well, as was cancelled after them falling out of the sky over main st. Chatham...and the sharpshooter from out west for the coyotes..
