Unless the tournament is strictly catch and release with penalties against killed fish then these things have the potential to bring out the worst in some. I know there are many fine fishermen and people on this site and others that participate in this tournament and others. And not everyone will abandon their principles for the sake of a tournament. But some do. And in a time when the viability of the stock is in doubt as to it's future then perhaps it may be best to forego the tournaments and just fish for the enjoyment.
Last year there were over 3000 anglers entered and on average, fewer than 30 fish per week were weighed in. (from On The Water April 2010)
That doesn't seem that bad to me.
